NJ
?Jake Allen (11-17-4, 3.37 GAA, .889 Sv%) will likely start for the Devils

TOR
?Ilya Samsonov (23-6-7, 3.00 GAA, .895 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?The Leafs put in what they very clear saw as their more back-up players on Tuesday so it will be interesting to see what the line-up looks like tonight and who gets back in, particularly with how Robertson played
?Joel Edmundson is also expected to be returning to the line-up soon, so that's likely tonight or on Saturday against Detroit

Keefe shortened the bench a bit in the back half of the game
59-34-11
88-91-16
89-29-74 (Marlies L1!)
23-64-18

Knies was a force on L4 and Keefe noted specifically that the Devils had no answer for him with that deployment. He's really started to realize he is bigger and faster than most of the opposition. A bit of a waste that he's freeing up pucks for Kampf/Gregor, but not so bad if he is the recipient of similar plays.

Yeah the Nylander-Tavares-Marner line was pretty interesting to see. Per NST the shot attempts were 10-3 and actual shot 5-1 in their favour in just over 4 minutes of ice-time. I think it leaves the 3rd line pretty weak, especially with Holmberg at 3C, so it's unlikely that's a permanent line but could be a different trump card Keefe can use late in games other than just the typical loaded up Matthews line.

88-16 in the previous game's OT was also really good. Nylander has also been taking more draws recently separated from Tavares and often covers C-duties depending on Holmberg's/Tavares' position on the play.

Provided the Leafs forwards don't get discombobulated from this, the Leafs forward depth advantage is that it can piece together a lot of weird permutations. The key is keeping the Leafs' strategy to a simplified, direct attack (almost like Carolina, but more slot focused) so everyone knows their role.

Matthews will always be a focal point for opponents, so Keefe can deploy him with 59-11/19 for offensive annoyance, or 16 for shutdown duties. Matthews wins pucks back down low so much that it frees up Domi and Bertuzzi to lean into their strengths (winning pucks in OZ).

Tavares has been on offensively sheltered deployment the past few series, and I think shifting him to a shutdown unit that might burn you on a counter punch is a more effective use of the rest of the team, either with Marner or Jarnkrok + McMann. Stack on Nylander if the other team's depth looks like poop.

L3 kind of needs to be centred around Holmberg or Domi, but with very effective shooters in advantageous situations. Nylander, Robertson, McMann, and occasionally Knies.

L4 won't get much ice time, but they're supposedly the backup shutdown option. Wouldn't hurt to give Marner a spin with Kampf a couple of shifts to help with the counter attack. Nylander has already subbed there in previous games when Reaves was getting his hand taped up. 23/24-64-16/88 would be hilarious on some surprise shifts.

The backend has some flexibility once it reaches full health.
