Dallas Stars courting Iginla

According to recent articles in the Ottawa Sun and The Fourth Period the Stars are looking to acquire Flames right winger Jarome Iginla. Tom Iglardi the Stars new owner is also part owner of the Kamloops WHL franchise along with Iginla. The Stars are hoping to get Iginla to wave his NM clause to make a deal possible. The Stars have 12 mil in cap room so they could easily take on his contract.

That would be very unusual that the guy that Dallas traded Iginla to Calgary for years ago later himself makes the trade for Iginla to come back to Dallas.

Neither of those sources are all that reliable, especially since TFP is probably just reposting whatever the Sun had. But if it is true, then I really don't get it from a Stars perspective. They really don't have the assets to pull off a trade like that assuming Eriksson and Benn are untouchable (and they better be).

I'm not so sure this is a smart move for Dallas, but moving Iginla is something the Flames should seriously starting to consider. Their team is a mess, and really needs to stripped down. Their farm system/prospects are weak, and Iginla is starting to show signs of age. He probably only has 2 or 3 really good years left in him, so, really, now is the time to deal him and get the best possibly return to jump start what looks like an inevitable rebuild in Cowtown.

I think Dallas is a far away (well...almost...) as Calgary so that seems a waste of young assets. Iginla is more likely to accept a trade where he's the topper to a good or great team IMO?

So a guy named Iglardi wants to acquire a guy named Iginla?  Alliteratively it's very cool, but I don't think it makes a ton of sense from a hockey perspective.

So IMO the Stars' new owner is acting like an ignoble ignoramus.

This is the team that didn't get anything for Brad Richards and now they want to trade for Iginla? Oookaay....

Funnier still that it would be Nieuwendyk making that deal.

Minor point (although maybe not with all of these great puns) - his name is Tom Gaglardi.

I don't see a fit with Dallas. Where I do see kind of a nice fit it Washington. Semin goes the other way (expiring contract to balance out the cap implications) plus a combination of prospects and/or picks.

* crestfallen *

Oh well, I was following the spelling in the original posting.

Mah goodness. Have they invited him to the Spring Cotillion? I should hope not, as they're affianced to one of the finest belles in all of Georgia.

Anyways, I don't see this from Dallas' perspective. Even if Iginla's slow start is more about his team than himself he's still not enough to turn them into a serious threat.
