Craig Berube named new coach of the Leafs

“I’ve been very happy with all the games except (Columbus),” Berube said. “The work ethic these guys put in is remarkable. I wasn’t sure when I got here, like, you know, the attitudes and work ethic and things like that.

“But it’s been outstanding. They come every day, very professional, very prepared, put the work in in practice, and it’s really led by our captains. They want to do well, and they do what they have to do to prepare to do well, which is great.”

I think so far the season has been going pretty good...... Leafs have convincingly beat some of the top teams.

I would attribute most of that success to Berube (and 2nd most important factor is Stolarz).

I don't mean to revive an old thread here, but amidst the struggles and the fandom questioning whether it's Berube's fault, Erik Karlsson just the other day gave this quote about the switch from Mike Sullivan to Dan Muse:

The roles are starting to slot in. You know what’s expected of you. You do the things you’re good at, and not the things that someone tells you to do, that you can’t do.

Part of me thinks that there's a "do the things that someone tells you to do, that you can't do" vibe in Toronto right now. But also, maybe that's the difference between winning in the regular season and winning in the playoffs.

So, perhaps if we want to win at both the regular season and the playoffs, we simply need a better roster. Not sure where these roster improvements are going to come from, though. Maybe Villeneuve/Chadwick/Danford can become regulars someday. Maybe Cowan/Quillan can earn spots on this team. But all of that seems like it's at least a season away. Using this season to sell off or retool at some level… seems inevitable.
