ARI
?Karel Vejmelka (6-14-2, 3.51 GAA, .893 Sv%) will likely start for the Coyotes
?Arizona was playing some respectable hockey this season but that's all gone off the rails with a 0-9-1 record in their last 10 games

TOR
?Martin Jones (10-7-1, 2.69 GAA, .908 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?I'm assuming Samsonov will be saved for the 2nd game of this back to back set since it's against Vegas but that's obviously just a bit of a guess

Hope I'm right, but i sense a new identity building around this team. Guys like Benoit have oodles of character, McMann shinning, perhaps Bert and Domi start playing to potential.  The resurrection of Samsanov.  Perhaps we have a real team gelling here.

I would think Jones, it's good Woll is with the Marlies and can hopefully be ready to regain the net soon.  As Marner, Willie and AM are constant producers, if we can get some consistent secondary scoring from the others then we should be in the win column more often than not.

Keefe sticks with Tavares and Nylander on separate lines. I don't think either line performed particularly well against St. Louis but nice to see the experiment getting a few games.

Samsonov is projected to start tonight, Jones tomorrow against Vegas.

I can't remember where I read it, but wasn't that always the Leafs' thing to go for the win on the first night of B2B?  Second game be damned?

That was a Babcock thing, starter always got the first game on the back-to-back regardless of the situation. Keefe generally isn't as strict about it.

You know how all the Toronto born players come back to Toronto and score a bajillion goals?

That's what Knies and Matthews need to do in Phoenix.

I like this. Stress test Domi (see if Nylander can adjust and carry the line), give Tavares a rest but also boost McMann/Robertson?s offensive opportunities in a relatively low-stakes situation. Most lines will have something a little different to play for in an otherwise throwaway game.

Only slightly worried by the number of brain cells on line 2. Because it?s probably only 2.

On the upside re the Domi line, they're all a little crazy so maybe they'll be tough to defend against. You'd probably want the best defensive pairing out there with them as much as possible - avoid the bottom pairing.

The three best forwards for parking their body in front of the net in my opinion - particularly for the PP would be Tavares, Knies and McMann (Bertuzzi would be my 4th). To have all three of those guys on the 2nd PP is probably something that won't last.

I thought McMann's finish would compliment Domi's puck distribution. And McMann would help cover Domi defensively.

Interesting line up to watch tonight.

It would be wonderful if Matthews can get his 50th with his family watching.
