Aportzline: #CBJ have traded C Jeff Carter to #LAKings for D Jack Johnson and a first-round pick.

They acquired him for Jakub Voracek and 1st and 3rd round picks.  So the net trade:

Jakub Voracek + 1st round pick + 3rd round pick for Jack Johnson and a 1st round pick

Not all that awful

Maybe, though, not that long ago, word was he made it known he didn't want to play in Columbus, so, it could be a short stay for him.
 
Johnson is a head case and I think is on his way to being a bust.  I don't see it as a great return for Carter.

That's a little harsh. He's a headcase, yes, but, bust? He's a very good offensive blueliner, even if he's poor in his own end.

You're right.  That was over the top. 

It's just that for as high a pick as he was, I would want a more complete player, w/o all the diva crap.

And, as Tigger said in the GDT, he is not going to be happy on the puny stage that is Columbus, Oh.

Yeah. Like I said, it wouldn't surprise me if his stint as a Blue Jacket is a short one.

Well, except that 1st was the 8th overall pick and a pretty good player in Couturier, that 1st from LA is going to be iffy-er.

Mac claiming that Dustin Brown is in play, how do the Leafs get him?!?!

Then deal for Ryan/Nash as well... lagalagalagalaga...

Who also happens to be an Olympian with a silver medal. Johnson certainly isn't an all-around defenceman, but he's getting ripped on these boards undeservedly.

Well he is having a career year in +- at -12 this year.. no seriously, in five seasons this is his best +- so far. In four of the five seasons he has finished dead last in +- on his team, and was second last the other year. Do you have any idea how astronomically small the chances of being dead last four of five years and second last the other year in +- on a team of 24 regulars (or whatever it is) is just a coincidence? Not to mention the last couple years when LA was good he was still a -21 last year with the next closest dman at -1, and theyear before he was a -15 and the next closest dman was a -4.

Jack Johnson is a great example of "experts" and actual NHL coaches and GM's not being as good at analyzing a players talents as you would think, they clearly think he is much better than the numbers clearly show he is.
 
Looking at the raw stats, Jack Johnson is so bad defensively that he negates his offense.

If I was columbus, I think I'd prefer Luke Schenn + Toronto's first to Johnson + LA's first.

If you were Burke would you have given up Schenn and a first for Carter?

If Carter's contract wasn't so huge, then yes, absolutely. But I'm pretty sure part of the reason LA got Carter for that priced was because of Carter's contract.
 
To me, this says if we wanted Carter it would have taken Gardiner + our 1st.

That would be a tough call, but I'm okay with hanging on to Jake.

i agree...carter's locked in for a while...and is one more foot injury from being the new forsberg
