Bernier sent to Marlies on conditioning stint

Against those who have come through the system

Reimer, Rask, Sparks

Which would you rather have had?

I wonder if next season they can ship him to a team looking to make the cap floor and retain the maximum portion of his salary.

Seems like the only way they'll get even a decent pick for him at this point.

It's a minor point but Rask was never in the Leafs' system. He wasn't ever a member of the Leafs' organization.

I think they're going to have trouble continuing to throw him in there, having him fumble, and then preaching accountability and all that.

He's not going to fix his game sitting on the bench, and with his contract situation the team desperately needs him to figure this out. As much as the team wants to win, they have to know leapfrogging 7 other teams in the playoff race at this point is basically impossible.

Yeah, it's not like there's any urgency to ride the hot hand right now so they might as well keep playing him.  It's in their long-term interest that he rebounds.

This, exactly.  The desperation comes from trying to get some sort of value out of his contract.

Someone made the joke on TSN this morning that for Lent Bernier gave up winning. Maybe someone should tell him it doesn't mean forever?

At this point I really think Bernier needs to be sent down again.  Bring Sparks back, give him a chance.  Without Bernier this season the Leafs would probably be in a playoff spot.  He was just brutal again last night, particularly on the goal where he went behind the net.  He makes too many mental mistakes to be a goalie at the NHL level.  I have never seen a goalie give up so many brutally bad goals.  How many has he let in from past centre ice now?  I know I have seen him give up at least two goals like that.

*edit* I just realized the Sparks is injured.  When he's healthy I hope they bring him back and get rid of Bernier somehow.  Send him down again if they have to.
