All other GMs better refuse to trade anything or anyone unless they?re getting something legit and handsome.

Well Dubas said they made their offer but Vegas wasn't going to be denied I guess. There had to be another team that made an offer because clearly St Louis was out, so why did Vegas have to go to 8.8?

People's numbers are all over the place. CapFriendly has Vegas at 88.4 mill. I agree, teams should absolutely try and fleece Vegas here. Whitecloud for a 5th for us. That'll save them 750K lol.

The way he phrased it made it seem like he'd have to take a hometown discount to make it work.

For sure. He just kicked the tires.

But St. Louis was out because of money, right? So Vegas' willingness to go to 8.8 is probably the reason Pietrangelo knew he could walk and still get his payday.

I'm sure the Leafs floated an offer but it sounds like it was dismissed pretty quickly which leads me to think it was a sort of "Hey, we'll offer you a super-undervalue deal which you can take and chase a cup/play in your hometown" shot in the dark.

By most available accounts, Vegas was the only option. They had 8.25AAV on the table and following the visit, upped it to 8.8M for no other reason than to shorten the waffling time.

Getting someone to actually sign the deal seems like a pretty good reason to increase your offer.

Not sure what the rush was, especially because they had to sell Schmidt up the creek at a significant loss as a result.

Yup. I don't see the rush. There was no mention of anyone else.

Because in these situations it's one owner changing his mind and a 15 minute phone call and a deal can be signed elsewhere. If you can get pen to paper on the most sought after defenseman on the market I think most GMs probably wouldn't want to just sit around and hope things slide your way.

100%. You need pen on paper and quickly.
