Alex Foster re-signed in Prague

Former Marlie captain Alex Foster seems to be happy playing for Sparta Prague in the Czech Extraleague and just before the playoffs started he signed new one-year contract.

He played in all 52 regular season games and I have read lots of good reports on him. He is centering Sparta?s third, defensive checking line and apparently did very good job and quickly became fun favourite. He is their defensive, shutdown specialist (he was +11 in +/-). On top of that he was able to chip in as he scored 11 goals and 23 points (7th among forwards and 8th in team scoring)

Sparta Prague won regular season and naturally are top candidate to win the playoffs champinship. I guess, this may be quite exciting times for Alex and good option if there was no way for him to make big club from the Marlies (he did appear in three games in 2007-08).

Foster has joined us in Belfast with the Giants after a year in Italy and a couple in the German DEL. Hasn't had a great start to the year coming off an injury with just 2 assists in 7 games so far.

And has now been a healthy scratch on a couple of occasions in the last few weeks, with just 4 points in 13 games so far.

Big night for Foster as he scores a quarter final winning goal with 8 seconds remaining of OT to advance to the semi finals.

I got to chat to him after the game also

Foster's season potentially ended by cruciate ligament injury.

Having had a slow start to the year and battled through some injury troubles, Foster had rebounded and become a key part of a side that had risen up the standings, erasing a 15 point deficit in the league standings to only 1 point. Foster was up to 28 points in 35 games and won the January player of the month award.

But on Sunday he took an innocuous knock on the knee which has turned out to be a damaged cruciate ligament and his season is likely finished.
