Summer League is over, the Olympics are done, Training Camp is about a month away so here we go.

The Team

The Schedule

Last Year's Stats

The Lowdown for Newcomers: Coming off the best season in Franchise history, the Raptors will be looking to build on last year's conference finals loss to the Cavaliers. Bismack Biyombo and Luis Scola are gone, their spots in the post being filled by Jared Sullinger and the team's two first round draft picks. The team will be led by Lowry and DeRozan(coming off gold medals in Rio) and the still blossoming JV with Norman Powell and Delon Wright as young players to watch.

Also, the Raps just tweeted this:

So...some more Huskies branding?

Yes please.  Always wished they became the Huskies instead of the Raptors.

I used to feel that way. In recent years it's grown on me a little. There's enough history with the name that it's like, sure, it's stupid but it's our stupid. Still, if they announced tomorrow they were permanently becoming the Huskies it wouldn't bother me much.

That said I always wondered if the fact that the Timberwolves came into the league so soon before the Raps had something to do with not going with Huskies and wanting to not have any overlap in terms of merch/logo.

I think that's exactly why they didn't become the Huskies in the first place.  Many times I've read (sorry no links) that the NBA didn't want them to be named the Huskies because it was too similar.

I also agree that being named the Raptors have grown on me too... mostly because their logo/colours have improved immensely from purple cartoon dinosaurs!  The changes have lessened my desire to change to the Huskies and I would be fine either way.

"Raptors will indeed unveil their blue Huskies alternate jersey tomorrow. They last wore Huskies throwbacks in 2009-10, DeRozan's rookie year"

They've got the Huskies jerseys at the website now. Won't start selling them until October. Look pretty sharp though, if plain.

Also, there was a management shuffle sort of. Ujiri got an extension and a promotion to President. Jeff Weltman goes from Vice-President to GM. Bobby Webster is AGM. It doesn't sound like how the club runs will be any different though.

So, DeRozan was ranked at #46 of the 100 current best players in the NBA by SI (Sports Illustrated), while teammate Lowry came in at #14.  Carroll and Valeniiunas at #s73 & 61 respectively.

Think DeMar was happy?  He took umbrage to his low number:

DeMar DeRozan  @DeMar_DeRozan
FOH. 46

DeRozan  @DeMar_DeRozan
#ProveEm...

Good opening night win on home court last night for the Raptors, a 109-91 defeat of the visiting Detroit Pistons.

Raptors DeRozan and Valenciunas combined to set an NBA record in becoming the first teammates to score 40 (DeRozan) and 32 (Valenciunas) points each in a game.

Pascal Siakam, who's family hails from Cameroon, impressed in his debut at power forward, having a Byombo-esque game.

On a side note, DeRozan's opening night points total  broke a franchise record previously held by ex-Raptor Vince Carter.

Sports Illustrated, you've been served.  #46 LOL

If the players on the floor with him could hit some more shots, he'd probably be averaging more than 2.3 assists per game as well.  They better start, or he'll be seeing way more double teams too.

Whoo-ooo!!  DeMar DeRozan is definitely making waves.  In last night's Raptors victory over the Miami Heat, 96-87, DeRozan became the first player in league history since 1986 to record 30+ points five games in a row this season.  Add to that the fact DeMar leads the league in scoring and one can see just how determined and motivated he is....are you listening, SI?

Other team notables were Terrence Ross with 20 pts., Lowry with 8 assists on the night, and Valenciunas' 10 rebounds.

Tough two games in-a-row losses for the Raptors. Tuesday's 121-117 OT loss to King James & his Cavaliers, and Wednesday's 127-121 defeat at the hands of Curry, Durant and the Warriors, on "Drake Night" at the ACC.

Curry and Durant had a combined total of 65 points, while the Raptors' DeRozan,
the league's scoring leader,  led the way with 34.

Raptors' Coach Casey unhappy with the defence:
"Offence is really clicking right now, but our defence is ass," he said. "We've got to play better defence. We played a high-paced team [Tuesday] and [Wednesday], but we've got to find a way to get the points down under 100 points, and play a more defensive-minded game."

Geez, how long it's been since anyone posted about the Raptors.

Well, fans will be glad to know the 26-13 Raptors scored what amounted to the highest scoring point totals in team history, as the they creamed the lowly Brooklyn Nets 132-113 at the ACC.

Led by DeRozan's 28 pts., many a Raptors player had double digit points --Lowry (20), Valenciunas (14), Joseph (16), Carroll (18pts., 11 rebs).

Easy win?  Not quite, as the Raptors needed a big fourth quarter performance to subdue the Nets.

No DeMar, no easy win.  Actually, make that just their second win in the past eight games, the Raptors worst slump of the season.

Without DeRozan their leading scorer, the Raptors had a lethargic first half before rebounding in the second half of the game led by Lowry's 33pts, as the Raptors defeat the New Orleans Pelicans at the ACC 107-105 in OT.

DeMar DeRozan has been out of the lineup since an ankle injury (swelling) dating back to January 22nd, In a game against the Phoenix Suns.

The team has been without Demar for the past four games since then.

Pretty big trade if true. Raps get Serge Ibaka from Magic for Terrence Ross and a 1st.
