Gustavsson traded to Winnipeg, now signs with Detroit

I must say - I didn't catch onto the pun at first in their headline and my heart blinked for a moment.

Gustavsson traded to Winnipeg, now signs with Detroit

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=399072 PITTSBURGH -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded the rights to goaltender Jonas Gustavsson to the Winnipeg Jets for a seventh-round conditional draft pick in 2013. The six-foot-three, 192-pound Swede is due to become a free agent this summer. Update...

    Goaltending conundrum

Tim Thomas would be a perfect stop gap solution providing the cost of acquisition isn't too high.  He'd be able to offer 1-2 years of solid goaltending assuming he would play for the Leafs this year. I'd much prefer that over Luongo.

    TOP 5 PICK!!!

From Friedman's 30 thoughts: 10. There are rumblings that Toronto will offer Luke Schenn to Edmonton for a swap of first-rounders. No doubt Brian Burke would like to make a huge draft splash. He loves the big stage. And I do believe the Oilers like Schenn and have discussed his availability...

He wouldn't have a choice.  It would be a standard entry level contract.

TSN: Rick Dudley expected to join Montreal as Assistant GM

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=395223 Well, this is an unfortunate situation for the Leafs to be in.  Even if they get their wish and keep Rick until after the draft, you could question where his heart will be in terms of releasing all of his info.

    Line-up changes

Based on practice reports yesterday, I would guess Connolly ends up on the 4th line with getting spot time on the power play.

    Grabovski re-signs

I agree with you Brendan.  I was merely gauging reaction on the deal to see if anyone considered the cap hit and term to be a long term albatross.

    Grabovski re-signs

For what it's worth, I believe Hornby was insinuating that the Leafs would save money on Kulemin over what his camp would have been asking for originally.  With his play, he will leave some money on the table over what he would have received if he had a stronger year. Personally, I agree with...

    Grabovski re-signs

Lance Hornby ‏ @sunhornby The Leafs might have over-paid with Grabo, but they'll make it up with Gary Greenstin's other client, the slumping RFA Nikolai Kulemin.

    Grabovski re-signs

All of the talk on twitter is suggesting the Leafs gave a bit extra money to stay at 5 years, where Grabovski's camp wanted 7-8 years.  I am happier at 5.5 for 5 years, instead of 5 for 7 or 8.

    Grabovski re-signs

Does anyone feel that this contract makes Grabovski a challenge to move?  I'm not suggesting I would want him to be traded - but would this hurt his value in a trade for a 1st line centre down the road?

    Grabovski re-signs

He's on pace for 25 Goals, 32 Assists total of 57. Last year was 29 + 29 for 59. Factor in the slow start, and he's doing very well.  I'm glad Grabovski is going to be around - and I'm not going to cry about $500,000.  If that's what it took to get him in Blue & White next year - so be it.
