I think the right decision would have been to let McGowan go back out for the 9th.  He only threw 8 pitches in the 8th.  To me this is Gibbons doing his usual over-managing of the bullpen thing.  He ended up using 3 relievers instead of 1 because he couldn't just let McGowan go back in. ...

The more I heard about what Oates was like in WAS, the less and less I like the idea of him coming here.

I would think.... and maybe I'm wrong (never!) ... that Edm walking away from the draft with a player like Phaneuf would do a lot to appease fans compared to another draft selection they add to the team far too early and he misses expectations.

It's just my opinion... but an opinion shared by several people I know and respect their opinions of for CHL prospects, that hitching your wagon to Ekblad as a potential franchise player is a pretty big reach.

I agree that the rumor stated is completely ridiculous and just reeks of Howie's old method of picking random names in a loosely connected potential trade partner scenario.  I think he's just trying a standard way of getting lots of attention from Leafs nation.  It's one of the goofiest trades...

As an example, the Leafs were going to acquire Vanek but could not due to lack of cap space.  If a similar scenario comes up next season, they would be in a position to take on a player.

+1 While some of those quotes are some serious tire pumping, the Leafs DID miss Bolland and he WAS considered an important piece of the puzzle for last year.  The problem I have with the Traikos quote is who has really given him "mystical" status.  I think "good player" and "important role"...

While I don't think Bolland has been built into something he's not at all, I'm okay with handing the gig to Holland too, as long as the configuration of the bottom 3 lines is adjusted accordingly in other areas.

I think expecting him to miss 20'ish games is reasonable (so a 60 game season) which isn't great but is still 75% of the year he would be playing... beyond that it's a bit like expecting Carlo Colaiacovo type bad luck.  Possible? Yes. Likely? Only Carlo is that unlucky. 

More than that isn't possible, even though he's done it 4 of his 6 NHL seasons since he became a full time NHL'er? (including lockout)

When I hear talk about "regression" in relation to sports, I get sad. :( ;D

I hope they can win again! (I miss that)
