    McMann to Seattle

It's wild the Leafs gave up a 1st for Laughton and couldn't get a 1st for McMann. I assume a few teams regret not picking him up at the deadline.

I thought that too, I had to look into it. Carlo is below average as well. I just assumed he was good given the trade and having come up with Boston. Edmundson wasn't the answer either.

I don't think it is a "Norris Level" defenseman that has been the problem for the Leafs. They haven't been able to put together 6 above league average blueliners on this team in the Matthews era. Look at least year with Tanev and McCabe as the top pair. They were as good as any D tandem in the...

Or even Leafier, finishing bottom 5 in the standings and losing out on the draft lottery and still giving the pick to Boston.

Just keep running out this d-core and the Leafs should be good.

Hopefully they're tanking for Keaton Verhoeff. 😃

Quite the contrast to how Buck Martinez was able to finish his broadcasting career.

Crosby makes $8.7m 😃 I honestly think we're having different arguments. I'm not saying Marner wasn't worth the contract he signed for, but that he got paid more than comparable players off of one point-per-game season when he signed in 2019. Marner wasn’t wildly above market but relative to...

I think the deal was they 'allegedly' didn't tell the Knights about the trade restrictions. C'mon! Fire up the puckpedia before you go through with the trade! League still should have flagged it. I think the problem still lies with the league who approved the subsequent trade and then had to...

    2025-26 NHL Thread

Probably the right move. I still feel at the end of the day it's on the league to make sure trades that are made are "legal". Why does the league need to approve trades if they aren't approving them for adhering to league guidelines...

Also, "Signing" bonuses get taxed at 15% in Ontario so the tax advantage is negligible for higher end free agents who can take advantage of that kind of agreement.

Colorado has taxes. Point woulda made more with Ontario taxes on the Marner deal. I think it had more to do with getting paid what Auston got paid than Point or Rantanen accepting less.

I take exception to this. I think there is some proof in the numbers. I've done no research on this but I can't think of another player entering free agency for the first time, coming off a career year, who signed for only a $1m increase on the yearly salary from their previous contract. To me...

I definitely pegged that at $9.5m to the Leafs, if not more. New rules July 1st max 6-years for new teams down from 7?

If the Leafs can get low enough in the draft that they can get a player who will come in next season, it won't be a "lost" season. Anything else hopefully they give up the pick this year. Otherwise the 1st round pick gets pushed down the line, unprotected mind you. Better to get it over with.

I would have been reluctant to trade any of the D (Outside of Rielly). They are hard to replace especially at a decent cap hit.
