WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

Mitch Marner "...lives in a master-planned community in Las Vegas", "... popular among NHL players". "He resides in a private, exclusive gated community that features 24-hour guard patrols, controlled entry, and layered security."

ECF: Montreal Canadiens vs. Carolina Hurricanes

I'm no Habs fan. But they have a 100+ pt team (5th in pts win%), all their draft picks and a good prospect pool They haven't mortgaged a bunch of their future to get where they are. They're pretty young. Their three top forwards are signed for years at ~$7.5M/yr. Their top dmen seems to have...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

I'm not sure how much it had to do with his on ice performance. But I doubt it was a big factor. I think it was a big factor in deciding where he wanted to continue his career. He probably opted for a gated community around Vegas. But the "underperformance" claim isn't that accurate or simple...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

Marner did not say too much about it while he was here. But there were a number of separate reports of this stuff going on over a number of years. Those had nothing to do with the car jacking. I think it started at his cottage. And then they hit his home. Here's some links on the vandalism...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

What seemed to bother him wasn't so much the stuff on the ice. Obviously, nobody likes losing. But what really bothered him was trashing his cottage and house. Having to hire security and have police around to protect his family. Fans went too far. And management didn't get his back. Pierre...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

Knights held the Avs to 2 shots over a 26 minute stretch. I recall the smothering defense of clutch and grab - the NJ Devils But the Knights weren't doing that. I can't recall seeing anything quite like it - to hold a team as good as the Avs to 2 shots like that.

ECF: Montreal Canadiens vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Vegas held Colorado without a shot on goal for about 14 mins in the 3rd ... Sometimes, these team D's seem to be getting pretty good.

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

Can't say I was a big fan of Phil's but that debate was probably the tightest I can ever recall. Phil had a very good, legitimate case. Crosby's two way play was a fair counter argument.

Carter Hart who has played 2+ rounds is tied with him in Sv% at .923 and faced nearly double the shots playing four more games. Anderson's GAA is 1.56 vs Hart's 2.30 so he's got the edge there. https://www.nhl.com/stats/ Depending on how the series go, there might be a case made for Canes...

In the third series, .804 save% 2.77...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

It hasn't. Kessel may have come the closest to doing that. I thought of him as a good, skilled player but not as "one of their best players in franchise history" unless there were a larger number of "best players in franchise history"

Was hurt blocking a shot. He did come back and and left around 16? min mark of the 2nd. He then played a bit in the 3rd and the latter part of the third but was clearly not 100%. Makar played 27 mins. I'm not sure it matters because it seems very unlikely that they can win 4 straight against...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

Yes, when Nylander was on Matthews right wing, Marner was with Tavares for example. Getting him out of playing 2nd line center for injured Karlsson and back to his natural right wing has helped. Eichel & Marner are both great distributors of the puck. I do not think having them both on the 1st...

WCF: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche

They did. It is arguable that the key difference was a between the wickets soft goal allowed by Wedgewood. Edge in scoring chances to the Avs - in part because they were behind all game. But I was reflecting on what is happening? Why? Colorado got stronger down the middle with the addition of...

With Makar since 2019, Avs are a .678 team during the regular season Without Makar since 2019, Avs are a .638 team during the regular season With Lauzon & captain Mark Stone probably out for Vegas, it is probably close to a saw off.

Colorado list no injuries but Makar is already hurt some - recurring shoulder injury he originally hurt against Calgary. He has missed practices. Don't know his status for tonight but he may be doubtful for game 1. They'll pound that shoulder if & when he plays. Lauzon & captain Mark Stone...

    Leafs part ways with Berube

Chances to win is a big appeal too. Or the coach quickly fades onto the scrap heap of coaches who fell short. The chances of Carle being able to win a Cup any time soon with this group are pretty small. Why would he come to Toronto over other situations clear of the Canadian tax code? I'd...

    Leafs part ways with Berube

Scotty Bowman won 9 Cups as a coach but it wasn't all due to his coaching. Scotty carefully reviewed the team he was going to. He messed up with Buffalo but made the right call elsewhere. Carle has the same luxury. He didn't get to where he is by being stupid. Ditto for Cassidy and other top...
