The fact the Leafs were willing to go after Rantanen and offer him an 8 year contract tells me that management believes Marner will test the market. If they were confident Marner is staying, I don't think they even go down that road.

If I had to predict, Marner walks. Barring a Stanley Cup run, he'll be fed up with the constant media attention and his perceived "they don't value me like Matthews" slight that his agent seems to love to take.

I remember the spring of 2016, all excited after winning the draft lottery, finally hoping we would draft a #1 overall impact center and eventually the Leafs would win a Cup. It's now 2025 and most of that 2016 hope is gone.
