In their draft years those were the guys in contention for being picked first overall. Certain guys were likely to go #1, but there were some legitimate questions. That's not happening this year. Sure, somebody else may make an impact in the NHL next year. I'm not expecting it though...

Most drafts have had more than one elite guy though. Stamkos/Doughty, Tavares/Hedman, Hall/Seguin and then there was the rest. This year it is Yakubov and the rest.

I haven't scouted the players to be drafted this year, but the impression I've gotten is that the top group are likely to take a bit more time to reach their potential than previous years where there were more players that were ready to go immediately. The only guy I have heard will be ready...

But how do the Leafs make that trade and get Schneider? We've been told it'll be at least Gardiner and the 5th pick to get him. Don't make us choose only one of those fantastic trades.

That may be, but the original post said Gardiner and the 5th pick. Gardiner straight up may be what it takes, but adding the 5th is way too much.

I saw the conversation in the other thread after I posted this. Schenn would be a very good start for all the reasons mentioned there, but I'm not sure about your Bozak and Schenn offer. Does Bozak really entice them much with Stastny and O'Reilly already as their top two? I would see them...

#3 depends on whether Montreal hires Roy between now and then I would think (and his true opinion on Grigorenko too) I'd be hesitant to pass on Grigorenko if he was available at the Leafs pick. That talent is exactly what the Leafs need, but I can't speak to his potential attitude issues though.

Isn't he a winger though? I know drafting for position isn't the best strategy, but I think a lot of people could be forgiven for preferring a centre this year. That said, I wouldn't be thrilled with Faksa at 5/6. Galchenyuk vs Forsberg is a tougher call though.

Reminds me of Jason Smith. It was Mathieu Schneider that he played with and they were the teams top dmen. Then Schnieder got traded and Smith struggled (granted also under a new coach - Quinn) before getting traded at his lowest point. He went on to have a pretty good career.

There were lots of teams looking for goalies and a 25 year old with 13 career NHL games went for a 2nd round pick. Is it really that hard to believe that a guy a couple of years younger who has shown potential at the NHL level wouldn't draw some interest?

2nd rounder seems kinda high to me. I know he has some potential, but it doesn't bode well for the Leafs trying to get a goalie as well.
