Official Armchair GM Thread 2014-2015 Leafs

The value is trading Kessel to a team where he is going to be the second or third best forward on a team that needs to win now or soon (like the Islanders).  Trade him to a team where he can play his style and succeed, and not have the pressure to be the number 1 option.  That's where I believe...

Official Armchair GM Thread 2014-2015 Leafs

Two things... First, the whole discussion is about my vs. others opinion of the "value" of Kessel.  That is the discussion - if you don't have an opinion, and are just going to default to he's worth what someone else is willing to pay...well of course he is.  That's not news.  That's not...

Round 2: Anaheim Ducks vs. Calgary Flames

I think Anaheim is thankful that they get to play Winnipeg and Calgary in the first 2 rounds.

The ironic part is that I've wanted Kessel off this team since last off season when he was a large contributor to the last 15 games downfall last season. I'm not one of his biggest fans. But I do believe he is our biggest asset, and I don't want to sell him low.

I don't want to make this into a Kessel vs Malkin debate....but this is where you and I have a disconnect.  I agree with you that Malkin would return multiple high level pieces.  I guess that depends on what that vague multiple high level prospects means to you vs me.  That's not at issue. ...

Who is our equivalent that we can offer up - Joffrey Lupul?

Ok - I'll defer to you on the levels of talent. You've likely seen more of the prospects than I ever will. You are probably right on Jones, but that kind of a return would be my target.  Future Norris type of defense prospect.

Official Armchair GM Thread 2014-2015 Leafs

I think your $ value assessment would be correct for almost any prospect/draft pick that would come in.  I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing to the value of the prospect coming back.  I'm just saying I think we can do better than the names you listed in a straight up deal for Kessel.  If Jersey...

If Carolina picks Crouse, then yes. Although you could probably get the 6th while keeping Kessel to trade for other prospects.  Say JVR and the nashville pick?

Thanks for the lesson in the obvious. I believe he should be worth more than the 6th pick in a top 5 heavy draft.  I believe Kessel is worth more than, say, Lawson Crouse or Barzal. If that's all he's worth right now....keep him.

If the #6 is all we got for Kessel, I'd be severely disappointed.  He's worth more than that (not 2 firsts and a 2nd but more than just #6).

    2015 NHL Entry Draft

Reading that, we should take Strome before Marner - since he has BOTH Skill AND Size.

If he's good in his own zone without the puck, even better!

Marlies Talk 14/15 | aka What's Nylander up to?

I am actually hoping it is injury related, as I do have high hopes for Percy as a part of the future of the Leafs.  I did like what i saw the first few games here with the Leafs - which obviously was not sustainable over the longer term.

    2015 NHL Entry Draft

Yeah, I think I am pretty much happy with the ranking of Hanifin, Strome and Marner - in that order. It would be completely amazing to roll out Rielly/Hanifin/Gardiner in the future as a possession based top 4 for the next decade or so.  It could be a nightmare in our zone...but i could live...

Marlies Talk 14/15 | aka What's Nylander up to?

That's an issue re: Percy.  From making the team on opening night, to not being in the top 6 of the minor league affiliate. With Loov's suspension, it will be interesting to see if it is Percy who draws back in.

    Round 1: Predators (C2) vs. Blackhawks (C3)

My hyperbole aside, to your point, Nashville is more "in need" of a higher pick than Chicago is, as a result of the playoff results.

    Round 1: Predators (C2) vs. Blackhawks (C3)

Well if the playoffs are that meaningless to you, then the draft order should be all set then...shouldn't it?  Line'em up 1-30.

    Round 1: Predators (C2) vs. Blackhawks (C3)

So let me get this straight... Chicago beats Nashville, and as consolation, the Nashville pick can still end up in a worse draft pick position than Chicago if Chicago loses in the next round. That makes sense to some people?

Marlies Talk 14/15 | aka What's Nylander up to?

I caught a bit of the last period and a half of game 2. First time really seeing Nylander, Leipsig, Brown etc.  Quite positive initial viewing of those players.  Was surprised to see Brown out their killing penalties, and Nylander playing the point on the power play.  Great skills shown by both...
