    What are they worth?

Yes and no. It's certainly possible but it wouldn't be at all unreasonable for a team to think that Nylander at 10 million is a good investment but balk at the idea of Nylander at 10 million and a significant asset cost. As I've said elsewhere the Leafs are also kind of in a weird negotiating...

    2022-23 NHL Thread

I don't know if any of you have been playing Immaculate Grid but now that Sports Reference owns it they've come out with a hockey version: immaculategrid.com/hockey Idea is pretty simple. You have nine guesses to try and fill the grid with players that fit into each box while trying to get the...

    What are they worth?

Sure but the whole reason people have for years argued that spending money in the UFA market is inefficient is precisely because teams overspend on players relative to their quality because of that scarcity. So if, as is being argued, Nylander is "worth" 9 million or so when compared to other...

    What are they worth?

Every good player who signs a contract to keep them off the free agency market makes a good player who is on the free agency market more valuable, not less. That's supply and demand.

    2023 Offseason Trades & Signings

I also think, to some extent, it's a sign that maybe that group in Boston wasjust a hair below the level you probably want your best players to be at in order to win a cup. It's not impossible, Vegas and St. Louis managed, but I think if you look at the teams that really did it like Pittsburgh...

Van Ryn was apparently specifically hired to work with Rielly on his use of vowels.

2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Being in charge of player/personnel seems like one of those jobs that's not going to have a consistent set of duties from one organization to the next so I'm guessing just being a good guy to have around is enough to secure your place there.

    2023 Offseason Trades & Signings

People are so sensitive these days. You can't even threaten to murder one cop and his family without being cancelled by the woke elite. Thanks Obama.

    2023 Offseason Trades & Signings

Also, as a side note, this is a hilarious tweet. Obviously it would be an off-ice issue that would prompt this because nothing possibly could have happened on-ice since they signed him(and you do your medical due dilligence before signing a player). So this reporter tweeted that an anonymous...

    What are they worth?

I get what you're saying but I'm not sure that necessarily tracks. Or at least I'm not sure it works a ton in DeBrincat's favour. In Ottawa, sure, his production was down probably in part because of his linemates(although he seems to have gotten most of his power play time with a pretty good...

    What are they worth?

As CtB points out there are some reasons that Nylander has a stronger case than DeBrincat but this still isn't addressing the larger reality. Nylander, as a pending UFA, has the leverage in being able to walk at the end of the year. If he's looking for a big money long-term deal and has reason...

A fair return for Nylander ?

And you got thoughts on it. My thoughts were that a trade doesn't really make sense if one of the things it needs to happen is to find a team that wants to make a trade that you think wouldn't be very good(Which, again, is trading Keller for Nylander and then agreeing to pay Nylander 10 million...

A fair return for Nylander ?

I think the idea is that Nylander would end up on the third team, one that presumably isn't on his list. So basically it would be two different trades. The third team trades Arizona what Arizona would want for Keller, then trade Keller to Toronto for Nylander.

A fair return for Nylander ?

I mean, he's under contract for 5 years. They don't have to trade him just because he wants it. I'm sure there are lots of guys under contract who'd like to be traded. But even then, they have the option of trading him for picks and prospects as opposed to someone making even more money than...

A fair return for Nylander ?

I'm not sure how this trade is supposed to make sense for anyone. If Keller is roughly as good as Nylander, why would one of the poorest teams in the league trade a younger, cheaper player for his older, more expensive counterpart? And the idea of a third team involved makes even less sense...

    Media Thread

I mean, he's still alive but sure. That said a lot of local papers have lost daily sports readership over the last 20+ years. I used to read the Star everyday and probably haven't read an article there in years either. My point was more that the NYT, as much as any paper, has a long and...
