If the pick lands outside the top 10, it goes to Philadelphia. If the pick is inside the top 10 the Leafs can choose to give it to either Boston or Philadelphia.

That's the way it's always been explained. Philly thinks the pick next year is now theirs unprotected and Boston gets 2028 1st.

To me it's a no-brainer to take McKenna and forge a new path for the franchise forward. Whether Matthews stays or goes, or however long he remains a Leaf, we now have someone right behind him to carry the team into its next phase when need be.

I dunno. If McKenna can't land us the #1D we've been looking for all these years, can we rebuild around him?
