Trouba traded to the Rangers

They haven't been allowed to talk to him and there are no conditions on the pick apparantly. I guess he'll sign though. Only an RFA I know.

There were reports that he was only interested in a handful of teams, New York being one of them. I guess that tanked his value quite a bit.

Well it's not Canada! But they still gotta agree on the dollars.
 
I think Winnipeg did ok. Got a decent cost conscience D and a decent draft pick for a guy who didn't want to be there and was holding them in Cap trouble. His money should help them keep a free agent or two. Not easy to get a return in the Cap world.

It's tough to figure without knowing what he'll sign for, I think.

No doubt, NYR got the best player at this point, but this whole managing the cap thing gets tough when you're up against it, and the guy doesn't even want to be there, and everybody knows it.

I was hoping Dubas would find his way to getting this guy on the team.  I think the Leafs really need a guy that plays like Trouba.

One problem with those is that he played as if he was a 1st pairing D in NY.  That isn't what he is and will likely benefit from a more suited place in the lineup.

I get that Winnipeg was in a bind here, but still this is Jacob Trouba we're talking about. He's literally the exact player every GM would crap their pants over getting. Especially after we all just watched what Parayko did in the playoffs. Even if Trouba was demanding to be dealt to a non-Canadian, Eastern conference team, I find it very hard to believe that Yzerman wouldn't have been able to beat that price to put his stamp on the Wings.

I highly doubt the Jets didn't talk to everyone who was interested and took the best offer for their team.

I expect quiet on Marleau until July 1st bonus is paid by Leafs. Wouldn't surprise me if Zaitsev had same plan to hopefully increase return , or loss. Marner well who knows??

He?s obviously not a world beater or anything, but in the right situation, being relied on a little less and such, I think he could be a reasonably good 3rd pairing type. Obviously, not enough for a Trouba, but, not a bad trade piece, considering the types of young players/prospects that typically get dealt.

Leafs weren?t going to announce anything significant until the Raptors celebration was over. Not that there?s necessarily anything in the hopper, but nevertheless.
