Reimer Injury

Wilson says it was whiplash like symptoms for Reimer. Could have finished game but erred on side of caution.

I hope there'll be a suspension for this.  There used to be a time goalies were completely off limits.  A players' skate couldn't be in the crease when a goal was scored.  Goalies were run all sorts and it's kinda getting back to that.

After watching the replay 19 times it looks like Gionta collided with him cutting in front of the net as opposed to bearing down and running him full on.

He could probably use the break though for someone with a 4-0-1 record his stats aren't too flattering.

I don't know, 2.55 GAA and .913 SV% going into the Montreal game, with a shutout, look pretty good to me for a goaltender with still only 40 career starts.

If I say they aren't flattering then damnit they aren't flattering!

Looked to me like Gionta stuck his hip out, knowing full well that he was going to make solid contact with Reimer. I wouldn't call it a malicious hit, but Gionta knew what he was doing.

Hip eh - Wilson was going on about it being an elbow.
I'm sure once he knew he was going to collide with Reimer he didn't take any measures to avoid it...what do you think - suspension / fine? Was Gionta given a penalty?

The goaltender interference penalty he got was probably enough, though, considering I don't think he made much of an attempt to avoid contact with Reimer's head, I suppose a fine could be in order (though, I don't expect one nor am I calling for one).

I think it's worse for the Habs if Gionta stays in the lineup so I'm calling for no suspension.

James Reimer not on the ice for practice. Jonas Gustavsson the lone goaltender. Wilson wasn't sure he'd be ready for tomorrow's game.

Leafs will recall a goalie to backup. Likely @scrivens_30 but not yet decided.

Bold prediction: We see Scrivens in net at some point tomorrow night.  :-\ I really hope to be wrong about that.

"The doctors took a look at me and just figured that it'd be best if they erred on the side of caution. I felt bad that I had to put [Gustavsson] in that position, but I thought he played really well. I might have to buy him a dinner or something like that."

Damnit James, you're the hardest person to dislike!

mirtle: Ron Wilson said yesterday, however, that it was "very likely" Reimer could play Thursday against the Rangers. We'll have update shortly.
