Just read on thefourthperiod.com that the Rangers are now shopping Zuccarello.

With that and the rumoured interest in Bozak, I would not be surprised if once Zuccarello is traded they bring in Bozak to take his spot.  Yes, Bozak is signed moving forward but can be a replacement for Zuccarello at the cap hit that the Rangers were looking to get Z signed at.

We'll see I guess.

Similar players stats-wise, don't see Zuccarello being worth $5 mil or more.

That deal would make the Rangers stronger down the middle, but they would still need to replace a winger (Zucarello).  They might be better off taking a run at Lupul, who has similar salary, good offense and plays the same wing.
 
Hmm, for some reason I was thinking Zuccarello was playing center. The fact that he's a winger makes things more complicated.
 
No one is suggesting the Leafs acquire Zuccarello. The suggestion is that if (when?) the Rangers move him, they might be in the market for Bozak or perhaps Lupul.

He's kind of like Bozak in that he's benefited from playing with some players more talented than he is. Unfortunately, the stats they inflated appear to have also inflated his salary expectations.

Exactly.  The Leafs would have no need for Zuccarello at this point.  I'm guessing Zuccarello is traded to a contender as a rental and the Rangers potentially use the assets they get back in a deal for Bozak.

Purely guessing on my part but I think it makes sense.

If the Rangers really are/were offering 5 or 6 years at $4.5, I think he's crazy not to take it.  He may find he takes a haircut in free agency next year.

Ideally, the Leafs would flip Lupul to the Rags for Zucarello and a pick, and turn around and move Zucarello somewhere else as a deadline rental.  Mentioned by someone else in another thread, but it makes sense from where I sit in my amateur GM chair (which is grey BTW).
