PIT
?Tristan Jarry (9-10-2, 2.46 GAA, .917 Sv%) will likely start for the Penguins
?Pittsburgh is 4-2-3 in their last 9 games, a stretch that started with a win against the Leafs back in November. That's bumped them up to 12th in the East and 5 points behind the current 8th place team (with 2 games in hand). Pittsburgh will need to start finally showing some consistency this season but if that happens a playoff spot is not completely out of reach

TOR
?Ilya Samsonov (5-1-5, 3.51 GAA, .878 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?After giving up 5 goals through 2 periods on Thursday Samsonov did hold the fort long enough to at least get the team to OT. It's unknown if that will be enough to keep him in the net or if Martin Jones will get another shot
?The Leafs did not practice on Friday so no updates on any of the injured Leafs. Reaves is expected to miss time after his injury early against Columbus. Knies has missed the past 2 games with an illnes but since he did skate on Thursday that's likely a sign he's close to being recovered from that. Liljegren has been deemed healthy but reportedly just needs to work on his conditioning so he's likely day to day at this point

Crosby with 17g - 31pts in 28 games at 36 years old, Malkin with 10g - 24pts in 28 games at 37 years old is pretty damn impressive.

I haven't heard a lot of talk about it, though maybe I'm just not in the PIT loop, but Crosby's deal is up after next season.

In extra gray for the morning skate, so not likely to check in unless Knies can?t go.

Must've been one hell of a flu bug.

Knies had a previous bout with Covid in his draft season and that one was a rough go for him. Covid causes immune dysfunction so it?s not unusual to see previously infected people getting dinged a little harder on normally regular illnesses.

Next game is Tuesday so I guess they're sending a little message to Samsonov.

If Brodie plays (game time decision), with Liljegren's first game back, might be a good time to go with 7 dmen

I wonder if it?s more of a message to the rest of the team.

Per CBC
Matthews is apparently out with the flu
Brodie is also out with the flu

That?s the Marlies? first line down there

If that gives the three of them some extra jump because they have familiarity playing as a line, I'm all for it.

Yup, but gotta give some length on the leash and play them like the Domi third line at minimum.

I think Keefe did a decent job with this jumble.
Tavares line: we know it works
Domi line: centre is where he has looked the best so far, and Knies/Marner are defensively and offensively huge upgrades for him to work with
Kampf line: best 4th line
Holmberg: Marlies? attack line

Was looking at NaturalStatTrick and for some reason McMann is #3 on the team in P/60 (ahead of even Tavares & Marner). That's not what I was expecting to see...
