Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

FYI Cap Friendly shows his contract at 11.630 and not 11.634 as is being reported. I reached out to Cap Friendly and they responded quickly to say that they show 11.630 based on what they know so far, but they are working on getting all the details and will update their site once they have it...

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

Please provide that quote. Or, I can save you some trouble and not have you look, because he never said it. In fact, he never said anything like that at all.

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

Minimally, the counter argument to this is that they all came due this time around and it will work out, so....

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

Bobby Mac thinks that Marner will either be a 3 year deal or a 6/7/8 year deal, but likely not the same expiry date as Matthews.

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

Tavares signed for 8 years. If you really thought that Matthews and Marner were going to sign for 8 then you have not been paying attention very well. But sure, sign them to 8 years and never build a team around them. Why can't Leafs fans be happy?

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

It is worth remembering that Nylander's deal is up July 1, 2024 and now Matthews is the same. I wonder how far Marner's deal will take him. That could be a big date for the Leafs. But hey, that is 5.5 years (6 playoff runs) from now and we get to enjoy the best team that I have seen in my life...

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

The Florida tax situation provides them with an advantage that cannot be modeled by other teams.

Matthews signs 5 year contract, $11.634mil AAV

I am reading tweets from Bobby Mac and CJ saying that there is nothing at all wrong with Matthews commitment to the Leafs and he would gladly have signed an 8 year deal, but that would have left them without enough to work at signing others. It seems that Matthews is so committed to the team...

Remind me again how that has worked out for the Oilers? When did they become the model for anyone to follow?

    Leafs @ Red Wings - Feb. 1st, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

Is Andersen confirmed for tonight? The last time that they came off a break Babcock talked about wanting to give him an extra day of rest - that turned out to be a bit of smoke and mirrors because Freddie turned out to be hurt, but using Babcock's own logic, might they play Sparks tonight and...

    Media Thread

I do not believe that I have ever been on this site before. I found it as I was searching for what happened to Scott MacArthur on the afternoon TSN show. A couple of interesting items in this piece about Scotty Mac and the Fan590 morning show. Seems like TSN 1050 ratings must be doing okay...

    Leafs @ Blue Jackets - Dec. 28th, 7:00pm - SNO, Fan 590

Chris Johnson, down in Columbus, speculates that Sparks gets the start tonight. That would be good news for anyone who paid out big bucks to see the game tomorrow night in Toronto.

I agree about the business side of things. If McCowan was discussing CBA negotiations (say, in the NHL) and hat remaining sticking points there were etc. I would give him the edge in those conversations. But for most day to day sports talk he is being severely outmatched right now by the boys...

I saw some discussion in the Nylander thread about Ferraro and O'Neil, and it made me think to post this as a possible point of interest. I was always a loyal listener of The Fan for as long as I can remember. I was around when 1430 CJCL went to the all sports format and I remember the day...

    Nylander signs 6-year contract

Wouldn?t you agree that the national (even international) appeal for a Cubs win was far greater? In that sense, the Cubs winning was a bigger deal. Someday (soon I hope) we may see the same for the Leafs.

    Nylander signs 6-year contract

Maybe, but was the Cubs World Series win not more exciting than the Royals the year before or the Astros the year after? The Leafs have been without for a long time, in spite of a massive loyal fan base. Shanny talked about how much it would mean to win in Toronto as well. There?s good reason...

    Nylander signs 6-year contract

Remind me again which team he works for? I mean, surely someone who is so right must be in high demand to manage a team, right? Talent > truculence
