    Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

In the blog, Lupul says, ?That?s where, especially veteran guys, have to step in and not let things go from bad to worse.? I suspect this could be a deficiency with the Leafs. I just don't see a lot of leadership on that bench, and haven't for awhile.

As much as athletes are experts on soopernatural powers, it's psychological. I think your confusing magic with psychological preparation. PS. Shutout for Bernier.

Of course, but this is sports and not reality anyway.

Just once I'd like to hear an athlete say that they will give 109% just to see the look on the reporters face, wondering why he's not going to give the full, 110%.

Let me un-jinx this... "Zee is 100% correct in his fortune telling and I would stake my pride and dignity on his undoubtably spot-on forecast regarding the outcome of tonight's game" That outta undo it. (In my world, the opposite of what I wish for comes true)

Interesting. Also, In regards to shot totals, the Roger Neilson method just makes way more sense IMO. You count quality scoring chances. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs were behind in those too.

As an example, during their loss to the Leafs, he was vocal on the bench, visibly irritated, and didn't quit hustling till the final buzzer.

Lupul may be a better choice for C, but still not optimal. He has battled immaturity issues in the past and is probably trying to help in that area as he likely sees the deficiency in that regard in the dressing room and on the ice. Personally, I would like to see a tough as nails type with an...

I agree. I think there is better hockey in this group, but the emotion (or accountability to each other) isn't there.

What kind of Leafs fan are you?

As someone who has been very loyal and managed to somehow maintain interest for over 3 decades, I'm been away from Toronto for about 6 years or so without means to watch games regularly. Kids , work, no cable, regional blackouts, yada... I've seen lots of HNIC games (on demand at 3am) and...

24/7 Red Wings/Maple Leafs Episode Two Thread

I don't mind RC as much after watching 2 episodes. I like his perspective of "It's your job to be motivated". He seems to keep a good distance from the players. Dion's pre-game speech was not at all impressive. Totally unnatural and his body language was attrocious. He was obviously nervous and...

    Possible Phaneuf Extension

Some leadership would benefit this team. If Dion can't get his troops moving and playing with some fire, someone has to step into that role. Toews was giving the Hawks a verbal paddlin' on the bench last Saturday night.

    Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

I would say this is true of most of last season too. They won many games only showing up for a period or two. The leafs can score and have solid NHL goaltending. There is another piece of the puzzle missing, obviously an important one.

    Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

It was the same deal last year too. They were winning games, but somehow getting by playing only a period or two. It seems as though there are some great upsides to this team in scoring and goaltending, two things you either have or you don't, but there is a problem elsewhere in the whole...

    Blue Jackets @ Leafs - Nov. 25th, 7:00pm - SN, SN 590

Some leadership on this team would be a nice thing. Kirk Muller would have been screaming his lips off at the bench last night. I can't escape the looks on the leaf bench during the last 5 minutes of game 7. No one saying a word. This team needs more hard-a$$es.

    Morgan Rielly

Glad he's staying up. I think back to Kaberle, Markov, Yushkevich and how those guys were pretty rough around the edges when they first started as pros. Even getting lambasted in the media (Cherry loved to pick on Yushkevich) but they evolved nicely into good NHLers.

    Wild @ Leafs - Oct. 15th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

Agree. Last year was the same story...getting wins while playing only 20 - 40 minutes. I guess it shows that finishing can outweigh some parts of the game that are detrimental. Hughson said it best last saturday, "The Leafs can score their way out of trouble" What's a few extra turnovers and...

    Pre-Season: Flyers @ Leafs - Sept. 16, 7:00pm - SN, Fan590

Ya know, I kind of like this. As someone who usually goes for a pee break during fights, or channel surfs, I think that would solve a few problems. Outlaw fighting during the games (that way, I'm not embarrassed in front of my kids for watching a sport where grown men act like complete asses)...

Mike Ribeiro UFA - Yay or Nay?

This is probably based on emotions from G7 (I've only just entered the anger stage), but I am hoping the next pickup will be some veteran leadership. Not necessarily a new captain, but someone who can set an example and keep the young Leafs heads in the right place.
