I'm hoping that a few veterans are brought in to sort this team out a bit, kinda like Tampa did a few years back. Firing half the organization is a bad idea. Shanny knows what stability can do for a team. I'll bet thats all we see right now and I think it wll make a difference.

I don't think the question is (in Shanonis' mind) is if he's a good defenceman or not, I would guess the question is if he is the right guy to lead the team, and help remove the complacency. My fingers are crossed that at the very least they will address that issue one way or another.

Good defensman, terrible captain, and the Leafs need a captain.

Fair enough. I guess I just get tired of the Leafs being labelled losers before every training camp, and then having it as our consolation when the wheels fall off. I hope it's not becoming a self- fulfilling prophecy for this team

That's not what I'm saying.  I think it's a lot easier to predict a team that has missed the playoff for a few years in a row to continue to fail, than it is a team that is going to break that cycle, and just be decent.

I'd stay away from critic's predictions before the season starts.  I think it's a better idea to start to build expectations (good or bad) 20 games in.

I'm a little more optimistic. The Leafs have goaltending and can score. Those are 2 things to build around. It's possible that the addition of a veteran or two plus a different approach from coaching could improve consistency. That seems to be the biggest problem. That certainly wont make them...

The way I see it, this team seems to have quit in them...probably due to youth. Randy just may be better suited for a team that already comes with bench leadership and motivation. He may not be into the "One for the Gipper" type speeches and psychology. I doubt that he is. For all I know, he...

It's hard to think, "Yay, they hired a new fella" when year after year of changes to roster and front office produce very little results. Once an improved product hits the ice then I'll say yay. for now, no yay.

This is a good point. The leafs won a lot of games last year and this year in pretty unconvincing style. They do have scoring talent and goaltending. Let's not forget that the Leafs only show up for 10 to 20 minutes a game on average.

However you slice it, the Leafs need a culture change. Considering the coach is the biggest influence on the dressing room, and that changing the coach is easy and has immediate impact on that culture....I would say its a done deal. Even if it's not his fault, the team needs a fresh start.

Seriously, I can't think of a single reason to continue with RC. I don't care how much the media ridicules Leaf fans for being hard on him.
