I just want to throw in the pot that we are all aware that this isn't about respect, or etiquette, or journalistic integrity...it's about selling clicks and paper. Make no mistake, THAT'S what their job is. Negative, sensationalistic, and exploitive articles always garner the most attention...

Can't help but feel the same way. There's always  "other metrics". I have a hard time with MoneyPuck Hockey and don't feel comforted by the fact the Leafs are buying into it. I would think that if it were that easy hockey would be bigger with the gambling crowd.

I've no respect for this edition, but I'll still be a Leaf fan long after all these guys are moved on, for better or worse. An elite player out of this draft would make a huge difference.

Last years collapse coincided with a western road trip too. They picked up wins in the first 2 games and slip from there.

The Leafs could have reversed their bad fortune had they traded MaCabe at his peak (for picks) instead of resigning him. He was pretty highly rated for the two seasons before his contract was renegotiated by JFJ. The Leafs could have netted 2 or 3 prospects for him. Of everything mentioned...

Yikes, that article is depressing. I'm all for a fresh resart. Wendel for Mats was the last trade that netted the Leafs a real 1st line/leader/player. It ain't gonna happen that way again outside of drafting that player. Tank you, tank you very much.

But that's just going back to RC hockey, and they weren't good enough for that either. I agree with personnel changes, but the kind of players the Leafs need won't just fall into their lap. They have lines 2 thru 4 covered, and d pairs 2 & 3. I hope your right, I'm just frustrated right now

I think what saddens me is that they look like there giving everything they got, it's just nowhere near enough. RC was done, but it doesn't really matter. Leafs need a miracle...on ice. Yes, a miracle that takes place on the ice.

I agree Carlyle wasn't the right coach for this group. I guess my question is what has been learned by analytics?  I don't see  how it can illustrate a problem that is undetectable by an NHL coach. Poor puck possession numbers can be symptomatic of many things (poor FO%, poor back check, poor...

But Carlyle said often last year in post game interviews that his team was under performing, even early in the season when they were winning. He wasn't convinced they were a good team, and a few of us here weren't either. I'm not really arguing against analytics. I don't know much about it...

On the flipside, does an NHL level coach really need an analytics team to tell him his team doesn't have the puck enough?
