Once he started whining to the refs about calls not going his way in game 3, it was clear his contributions to this series were not going to be by being involved in Leaf goals.

They’re just too easy to defend. The only guys that have produced in these type of games are Matthews and Nylander. Teams can just focus on them knowing the rest of the guys can’t adapt. They just keep looking for those two over and over - and not particularly quickly, either.

Certainly seems like it. Worst playoff performance I can remember. Two straight games with no real pushback. Even if they muster up an effort in game 6, it’s too little too late at this point.

Just because they don’t give the kind of quotes you want to hear doesn’t mean they aren’t taking their share of the blame. They don’t say anything meaningful to the media ever. Very few professional athletes ever do.

That’s true, but the Leafs don’t even look like they belong in the playoffs right now. If they were losing tightly contested hard fought games, it would be much easier to stomach.
