You are correct; Yashin signed his deal before DiPietro. You are wrong; it is not the cap circumvention that hamstrings a team - it is the length of the contract.

I do not think that is accurate.  I heard that Crosbie's agent will make a bit over $3 million for his contract extension, which is a lot of money, but only about 3% of the total contract value.  Thus, Brodeur does not need much of a bump to more than recover the cost of the agent.

I did not see enough of Mueller's play to form an opinion, but the fact that he was a healthy scratch in the AHL playoffs is a red flag that the Leafs are not that high on him.

The free agent pickings seem to get thinner each year.  I sincerely hope that the Leafs do not sign a lower tier free agent to get up to the cap maximum.  I would much prefer to fill out the roster with Marlie graduates and save the cap space for improvements through trades.
