Totally agree with you, LK.  I mean, even if they idea is that he?s the Leafs ?answer? to Foligno or Reeves, well, I don?t think he can realistically do that, either.  So why not have Malgin waterbugging around with skill instead?

Conversely, Holmberg ?feels? like an NHL player to me.

I?m sorry, I want him to succeed, I really do, but what positive attributes does Simmonds bring at this point?

Oh damnit.  I'm so sorry to hear this.  I felt overwhelmed by his appearances last week.  I remember watching him dangle through three Sabres to score the Leafs' lone goal in a 3-1 loss at the Aud in Buffalo.  Must have been around 1985.  My dad suffered from Parkinson's and Lewy Body dementia...

Is there a sense whether Timmins is able to play in the near term?  Is he healthy / able / capable to step in?  If not, what's the projected timeframe?

Great insight and assessment, as usual.  The main difference would be the five years of significant retention that would be needed to make the deal work for the Leafs.  When we look at what retained salary is worth, I don?t think I?m being terribly unreasonable.  I do think EK is almost...

With the recent talk that San Jose may be shopping Erik Karlsson, I'm wondering if there may be a fit with the Leafs. Acquisition cost will be high, but this has to be the time for Dubas to push in the chips.  $11.5 annual salary, 5 years left on his contract (to age 37), and significant injury...
