    Goaltending conundrum

Anyone catch HNIC Hot Stove yesterday? Healy said that Allaire was getting fed up in Toronto and thinking of retiring. That could be just idle gossip/getting a shot at the Leafs on Healy's part, but who knows? I think the Leafs could use a mentor/veteran goalie just to provide a bit of...

    The Brian Burke Thread

The Islanders had the drafting part going pretty well but utterly failed in the development side of the equation. Mad Mike couldn't resist flinging top prospects out the door. Had the Islanders shown some patience, they might have had another Cup team. It remains to be seen if Garth Snow is...

    The Brian Burke Thread

"Well, how about the Chicago model?" might have been a good follow-up. I think Burke still believes in 'win sooner', though it shows no real signs of working. I can't really say how the prospects he's added are going to do in the NHL, though I expect there's some promising players in that...

    The Brian Burke Thread

There was too much focus on playoffs or lack of in that press conference. I get that it's the media that's hammering that point, but Burke only has himself to blame for mismanaging that message from the get-go. The Leafs aren't ready to make the kind of playoff run Burke is talking about. I...

It is in the NHL's best interest to have the Leafs win the draft lottery.

I know it's fashionable to call into question the draft lottery ever since the Penguins, a dying franchise desperately in need of a new arena, were able to 'randomly select' possibly the game's greatest superstar since Gretzky. But that's just...well...

    TOP 5 PICK!!!

Just some random thoughts on this topic: I figured the Leafs ended up drafting 8th, but it turns out they have 5th spot with a (slim) chance at the top pick. Cool. Schenn. I think he's flustered right now and is as glad as anybody that the season's finally over. I wouldn't give up on him. Nor...

    Official Tank Nation Topic

I thought the Leafs could possibly tie or pass Carolina and Minnesota and win the tie breaker on win totals, but I don't know how the shootout or inter-conference tie breakers factor in. Oh well, whatever. It will be sorted out soon enough.

    Official Tank Nation Topic

Worst case (I think) would be Leafs with the 8th pick. With the way this season has gone, that's probably what will happen.

Game 79: Sabres @ Maple Leafs. 7:00pm. another day, another loss ?

I went to atdhe and clicked the 3rd one of TML vs Sabres. I don't know if that's the same one as WIGWAL posted. I'm not sure how to post the direct link myself, as embarrassing as that is to admit.

Game 79: Sabres @ Maple Leafs. 7:00pm. another day, another loss ?

Yes, I gave up on it. I couldn't make any sense of McLean's interview with Bowman, as the feed kept pausing and skipping forward every couple of seconds. Was Ron getting at the Leafs pursuing Bowman? I found a raw feed of HNIC. Kind of funny hearing the off-air conversations.

    Your summer 2012 strategy?

Well, I guess that's what I wish he would do. I imagine an awakening, perhaps a rude one, being delivered to ownership not to expect any playoffs, much less a contending team until a rebuild has been properly completed. However, as it's likely that Burke sold MLSE on yet another quick-fix...

    Your summer 2012 strategy?

Burke's biggest task this summer might be figuring out who the players to keep going forward should be. I can't recall seeing the Leafs in this particular state of disarray in some time, if ever, so it won't be an easy job sorting that out. It would be very interesting to hear the year-end...

    The Brian Burke Thread

The Toronto media is a test of Burke's mettle, probably to a greater degree than he's previously experienced in hockey. Should they back off? No, I don't think so. The Leafs are still and again a bad team. This season has to be seen as a failure. Burke has been his own worst enemy though...

Current System not right for the Players?

The run and gun worked the best for the Leafs this year because of good team speed and good finishers in Kessel and Lupul. The Leafs were unable to sustain success with this style because of inconsistent goaltending, and because teams increasingly played a trap game against them. Burke often...

    The Brian Burke Thread

I'd like to see Nash as a Leaf, but when you factor in what it would likely take to trade for him, plus his age- he's not old but he may be by the time the Leafs can assemble a contender around him- and the fact that he hasn't helped Columbus go anywhere, I'd have to pass.

    The Brian Burke Thread

What I want to see Burke do from here on is use the hockey think-tank of an office staff he's assembled to get an accurate read on keeper players going forward, and start getting rid of the dead wood. How Burke is going to get rid of some of those players, let alone get anything of value back...

    Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

I don't think anything is going to happen automatically. The Leafs don't have the roster to win right now, period. That's regardless of whatever system they play, or who is coaching them. One thing that has been consistent with the Leafs for decades apart from the early Burns era, is that...

    Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

This is a team that needs to learn how to play defense. If any players or fans of the 'run and gun' get their noses out of joint during the transition, well boo-hoo.

Stay away from the UFA's! How do we improve?

Some of this thread reminds me of an old Steve Martin routine: How to become rich. Step 1: Get a million dollars, Step 2... Let's face it. The Leafs probably aren't going to sign their future franchise players as UFAs, or trade for them. They also probably don't have those players in their...
