Can anyone explain why 'super scout' Craig Button thinks the Leafs will have to expose Connor Carrick in expansion draft?  Zaitsev doesn't have to be protected since he is rookie.

Looking forward to watching Kapanen skate on 4th line. Hopefully we never have to watch Ben Smith take another shift.

Komarov and Hyman are locks (beyond this season) because they bring a lot more to the table then just work ethic. Side note: This is Smiths 40th game of season, if they give him a contract for next year, he will be eligible as one of two forwards that we need to expose for expansion draft.

3rd game in 4 nights....it shows

His liking of Smith is equally as confusing.  Smith is below average in all facets of the game except maybe work ethic, which should not be enough to justify a spot in this lineup.

No more days off in the sun for this team... recipe for disaster

You know it's not a good night when Marincin looks like our best defenceman.

Just not sharp at all tonight, like how do we end up with Kadri and Bozak on ice at the same time anyway?

This D core is not built to protect leads

Hadn't checked the stats in a while, but Gardiner is a +23! Marchenko is 2nd highest at +9.

I really like this move and if it gives us that extra little push too the playoffs, this young team will benefit a great deal.  Babs now has someone to take crucial draws and play those tough final minutes in close games. And if someone wants to overpay us for Bozak at trade dearline, let him go!

They all look pretty gassed tonight.  In hindsight, it would have been a good game to get Marchenko into.

I wonder if he figured that the play was already fully assessed from an interference standpoint since it was reviewed anyway.

I believe he has not seen a shift since taking his 3rd penalty

He is physically weak and not the least bit aggressive despite his size. I can't stand watching him out there.

There has to be a better option than Marincin on the Marlies

The kind of defenceman the Leafs need would be a Chara in his prime.  Someone who can play the important minutes to close out games. They don't seem to have that long reach guy back there that can poke pucks out of harms way and shut down the opposition.

Agreed, although Bozak's terrible defensive play cost them 2 goals

I think you can officially say Gary Lawless was wrong or premature with the Laine > Matthews article. The real debate should be Matthews vs McDavid ;)

Can't fault Babcock here guys.  Matthews was only 1 for 4 in shootouts, it makes sense to give others a go.
