Just looking for a good effort tonight - Florida is on the second of a b2b and missing some key players so there is really no excuse to not come out on top here. Maybe we get goalied or lose because of some bad bounces, so be it but just show up and battle like it matters.

This is the kind of game that give me hope that the Leafs could actually win a few rounds. Really solid game all around.

I think the Leafiest thing would actually be (1) lose to San Jose (2) dominate LA and win big (6-1 or something as you note), but then (3) crap the bed against Anaheim Step 1 successfully completed...steps 2 and 3 TBD

Yep, 100% agree and have said it before but I do like the term "just a collection of guys" (I think I've used "leftovers" but same idea). They never have seemed to decide exactly what those 2 lines should do/be and as a result they don't really do anything very well. Scoring line and shut down...

It's not horseshit. And no one is saying they don't have any drive to win. They just don't appear to have enough. Think back to some previous Leaf greats. Can you tell me honestly that any of the core 4 has as much "drive to win" as Doug Gilmour had? Or Wendel Clark? Based on what I've seen...

Basically the core 4 have proven over and over that they're not as good as they need to be to take up as much of the salary cap as they have. Now of course there are other complicating factors (covid limits on salary cap at the wrong time, management spending too many assets on rentals so now...

That last game was not too long ago...I expect the Leafs to remember how that went and come out with a better effort tonight. It's the Anaheim game that I think might be "one of those nights" especially after a probably tough game in LA.

Pacioretty with Tavares would make sense if he is able to actually play, but obviously that's not the case right now. Pacioretty as a RW could still be better than Robertson and certainly plays more of a Berube style...though Robertson does give it his all out there. Domi needs to play more...

Agree they need to give Laughton some steady time with consistent linemates who have some actual hockey ability. The lines from David Alter are one way to go about it. Another option I was thinking of was something like Domi-Matthews-Marner McMann-Tavares-Nylander Knies-Laughton-Robertson...
