Very disappointing to lose a great guy.  Always smiling and upbeat no matter how many times this organization tried to crush his spirit. I wonder if the terrible return is indicative of his concussion history.

In that respect, I'd take a star player with leadership qualities just as much as a 'generational' talent (who has none) any day. Messier, Sakic, Iginla, Toews, Modano, Brett Hull...thank you very much.  That's going to win you the Cup. That's where Gretzky had everything.

I might watch this just to see the amount of suck they can generate.

Same here Zee, same age.  So many 5 year plans have come and gone and here we are. If we couldn't do it with Sittler, Wendel, Dougie or Mats...I don't know who the next guy is we build our Cup winning team with.  But I'd say he is not on the roster today.

This team is not being designed for the coming year to be good enough at anything. There will not be enough scoring, defense, toughness or skill in any area.  That is by design. The least of which I am concerned about is toughness. We will lose an incredible amount of games next year.

Palmateer is gone then?  Hm, kind of a blow to a former star.  I hope that doesn't create a rift, but probably does.  Sort of awkward to be around the rink as a former player at the events.

That's a heartwarming sentiment.  You're right on one point - that the Shanaplan would be wise to not rely on anything from the past.  The trouble is, there's nothing to say it will work any better...and Shanahan himself is totally unproven in the ways of building a team. 

I don't see how anyone can explain the dark cloud over this organization that has lasted so long, through so many years and how it can be fixed.  Whatever Shanahan says, there is nothing he can say to make me believe he knows what to do when Burke did not.   

You'll have to forgive those in their 40's who have watched this team since Sittler was our Captain, for a lack of optimism.  I never thought I'd watch this team all this time and never see a Cup.
