I like Smith as a call-up, he's a decent NHL player and a really good AHL player. He won't blow anybody away in the NHL, but he doesn't look out of place. It's a good signing IMO also.

I think he is though on a long term deal. He's definitely a top 4 defenseman and trending upwards, so 4 million over a 5-7 year deal is a bargain IMO for the Leafs.

Great signing! I think others have stated what I could, so I won't repeat. Definitely lots of moving parts and skating ability. I also think it's a good idea to lock in Gardiner for long term, as opposed to the bridge deal. If the money gets too out of control, there is flexibility there.

Plus, he paid around 600k to buy himself out of his KHL contract to come over.

Anybody else think we are trading Kadri? I'm not saying that Kontiola replaces that, but Nonis also said that they are giving Holland a big chance. Then add in that we already have an offer on the table for Legwand, somebody is leaving, no?

I wonder if Leo gave them any insight into his game and character? Also, there must be something to him, as 5-6 teams were interested in him. 

He needs to put on size and learn how to backcheck, if he can overcome those two things, yeah, he's got a good shot. He's got every other skill you need.
