    Ashton & Broll to Tampa

I really like the "conditional" part of this.

    Tank Nation UNITE!!!

Yes Franson is a decent player, no disagreement. However he has made zero difference on a team that is now losing almost 100% of its games. Let's just pause to thick about that for a second  - that is a staggering feat to lose an entire month's worth of games. That money could better be spent...

Goaltending Showdown - Reimer vs. Bernier

Since they are pretty much a wash and since we are losing almost a maximum number of games either way, why pay exponentially for Bernier. After all, it is clear that he is not a difference maker in any respect and yet - like Franson - he will expect $5M+ over four to five years. Not worth it...

    Trading Franson and then resign?

Agreed. Any idiot can lose like this for a lot less money than the current Leaf payroll. The first step is to stop overpaying for players who do not make any difference between winning and losing. In fact based on the last month, it is pretty much impossible to lose more games.

    Leafs @ Blues - Jan. 17th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Clearly they have grasped how to play defensive hockey. Now the next step is to get them to defend the Leaf net, not the other team's. I said it when Brian B arrived, BLOW IT UP!

    Predators @ Leafs - Nov. 18th, 7:30pm - TSN, TSN 1050

Another goal against in the first two minutes. A tough way to start a game. These guys must think the anthem is a lullaby.

    Rangers @ Leafs - Nov. 8th, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

Not even a minute in and down by a goal. Egad.

    Training Camp Thread

The same Cox and Simmons that everybody around here hates and derides as anti-Leaf hacks?

    Nylander signs ELC

The other, more positive, news of the day was that ESPN has ranked Nylander as the 4th best prospect. Hell, I was just surprised to discover ESPN has anyone covering hockey.

Leafs hiring ExtraSkater.com founder, creating analytics department

Weasels schmeasels...it could have been worse: they could have hired Eklund.

Leafs Sign Jake Gardiner (5 years, 4.05M AAV)

I am not being critical of Nonis' contract negotiating skill, that is another issue entirely. I am speaking only about team building philosophy and the fact that there is a consistent strategy emerging that is aimed at achieving success on an annual basis and not just at making a UFA splash or...

Leafs Sign Jake Gardiner (5 years, 4.05M AAV)

Just in case I was not clear enough....I could not possibly be more freaking pleased with this move than I am. Shanny is making an enormous difference. In other summers we would have overpaid for  UFA that was past his "best before" date and we would have traded Gardiner to some place like...

    Leafs sign Daniel Winnik

Clearly the Leafs are in it to Winnik!

Leafs Sign Jake Gardiner (5 years, 4.05M AAV)

I could not be happier with this commitment to young talent at a decent price over a longer term. This is a cap to the last 3 or 4 weeks namely that this is at last a serious (re)build commitment by management and not another ad hoc UFA overpayment summer. I was worried that we would trade...

Toronto Free Agents that are signed

You are correct but the issue was never framed that way at all by the NHL. The league demonized the overpaid players and said a salary cap would put an end to the upward slary  spiral that was out of control. Well it is still out of control but only with respect to the middle rage of players...

Toronto Free Agents that are signed

That would surprise me since I believe it is a non issue. It would be surprising to see this become an issue inas much as the max for any one player is somewhere north of $14M per season and no one is anywhere near that - the highest paid player is at $9.55M so about a third off the top...

    Falling Leafs

Bernier is a better goalie and moreis expected of him in terms of number of starts and quality ones at that. Plus if he starts 65 games that is what I would be looking for anyway, not for the back-up to be starting 30 games as others have suggested.

    Falling Leafs

If you seriously believe that then we have the back-up goalie, what we need is the starter.

    Falling Leafs

Strange dichotomy you frame there - not so long ago it was no criticism of Raycroft, after all he was a Calder winner. Of course you either miss my point or try to obscure and distract: the fact is that securing so called experience NHL goalies to be a Leaf goalie is something we have tried and...
