I think you have said it perfectly. We had a glaring need on the blueline particularly after the Zaitsev trade and the only way to address it was to give up a forward of sufficient value to ensure a decent defenceman in return. I like this deal a lot more than the Zaitsev trade.

That may not be a dream. Montreal just offer sheeted Aho and if Carolina matches, Montreal will still have that money and sufficient cap space to come after Marner.
