If CHI hadn't already blown their pick wad I would've thought a Bickell + picks for Lupul @ 50% retained salary would've been a good deal for both teams. At least Lupul has enough high end skill to potentially off-set the absence of Kane.

But even if we get McDavid, we're nowhere near good enough to be a playoff contender. Our defence alone will take 3 years to re-build, not to mention the 2nd and 3rd lines and maybe the goalie. I'm almost worried that we'll land McDavid, and all of a sudden the good people of Toronto will think...

The way I see it, if Tinordi reaches his potential he'll be what Polak is now so I'd have no interest in that deal.

If it were Mantha, Pulkkinen and a 1st I'd do it in a heartbeat. That would signal a 5 year re-build, which would be fine with everyone I think.

I don't think they're comparable with the $ and term on Phaneuf's deal, but that Coburn return is insane. Connolly also went for 2 second rounders? WTF? So Lupul is worth a 1st for sure if we retain salary IMO.

I'd prefer they were worse, at least from a record standpoint, for 1-2 more years (but I think you meant more from a personality/attitude standpoint).

I hope they trade Phaneuf mid game. Polak skates over, tells him he's been traded, rips off the C and Phaneuf skates off in disgrace. The return is the best anyone has ever seen in any hockey trade ever. Nonis is made GM for life and there is a special ceremony for him at the next game...

I don't know if this is a joke, but I'm torn on him. He's been much better under Horachek but he's nowhere near worth $4M a year at this point in time. He'd be best packaged with someone else on the roster IMO, as he's not especially valuable on his own.
