    Idiocracy 2024

The constant escalation is not good. I hope Trump calls it a win soon, before it gets to the point that he and Bibi are choosing between boots on the ground or a tactical nuke.

Yep. Can’t fight a very long war that starts thirty points underwater. Will be curious to see if it changes the direction of public sentiment. It isn’t the early 2000s anymore.

Like said, there's no question who, objectively, is the greatest threat to humanity in this thing.

Ok, but how dangerous? Reporting is Israel was eager to attack when they did because Iran was about to build a nuke reconstitute their ballistic missile deterrence and threaten Israel's very existence Israel's complete freedom of action in the region. That doesn't seem to me like a country that...

    Idiocracy 2024

At this point, I'm find it pretty near impossible to view Iran as in any way "dangerous" compared to the two regimes that are now carpet bombing the capital of a country they attacked in the middle of negotiations. TBH I don't think the US or Israel view Iran as dangerous either. They viewed it...

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I would've liked to have seen the core with a new coach after Montreal (2021) or Tampa (2022). It would've been helpful to see them under a coach with more experience dealing with stars, would've made it harder to fail to see the need to move one of them before the NMC's kicked in.

Yeah... Sorta crazy that Shanahan's last move was to do the Kessel trade for a second-pair defenseman.

It was a fork in the road for the management but also for the team's ability to manage its assets competently. A month after Dubas was gone, the team also committed to losing a piece of the core for nothing, or close to it. I suspect the two things were related. The other trait of Tre's is that...

Wasn’t that the Shanaplan though? Build for the long term? No shortcuts? I thought he told us that was the plan.

Although if they were to make it, they'd have to be playing at like a 110-point pace or whatever. They'd be pulling a Florida c. 2023 or whatever.

Matthews as trade fodder? That seems fanciful. Maybe it's something that gets broached this off-season if there's no plan to get this going in the right direction and he's not intending to re-sign (that's about the timeline when he and the management started discussing his future before the last...

    Avalanche @ Leafs - Jan. 25th, 1:30pm - TSN4

That's been the pattern, right? They were too slow to move off the last coach, the star winger who wasn't going to re-sign, the GM who couldn't build a defense, the president who let them down this path. They're always a season too slow.

Yeah, or at least planning for that eventuality. You don't have to be president deals to know that that indicates you're dealing with someone you can't trust to have leverage over you. As to new bit EF reported, if Matthews worked out a framework for staying and was clear, direct, and honest...

I generally don’t like Friedman, because he fills a lot of airtime and column space saying a lot of nothing (this could happen or not happen), but this is pretty detailed reporting. Key section to my eye is here: This is when a competently managed team would’ve traded the player, or used its...
