R1, G5: sens @ Maple Leafs - Apr. 29th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

Also "Just win" isn't good enough for me at this point. We "just won" two years ago against Tampa and then proceeded to get filled in by the Panthers and then played the same can't score when it matters hockey against Boston the next year.

We win Game 6 (or Game 7) and then face Florida and lose that series...I don't care if we outplay the heck out of them. This team needs to win "just win" at least 2 rounds before I even entertain any semblance of this team moving forward.
Winning a couple of rounds is the only thing that can change the narrative.

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

JULY 2045

"The legendary Leaf players known 20 years ago as the "Core4" in Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander went 1 and 15 in deciding games before they were broken up after getting knocked out of the first round in 2025.

Mathematically, the chances of a coin flipping heads 15 times on 16 flips is infinitesimally small at 0.0002.

20 seasons later and it's a record that no other team nor player has come close to breaking. A true spectacular feat in professional sports that stuns even the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bill's to this day."

I may take this approach tomorrow night.
Honestly I’m just not as attached to this team as I used to be.

I’ll of course get caught up in the hype if things turn around, but my perspective of life and entertainment has changed a lot over the last few years. I don’t see any value in sitting there frustrated and watching this team flail and fail. I can find 20 more enjoyable things to do.

Bottom-6 scoring would be nice but look at what we have there. Calle Jarnkrok, 5 playoff goals in 98 games. David Kampf, 4 in 34. Steve Lorentz, 2 in 37. Domi 8 in 55, Robertson 1 in 12. You would think one of these guys - or Laughton who has the best stats of all of them - would eventually shoot one in. But a big part of the reason we have such a weak collection of bottom-6 players is that the core 4 were paid as if they were good enough to score enough on their own. Marner, Matthews and Nylander were paid as if they were as good or better than McDavid, Draisatl and MacKinnon. However, they are not even close to that level - that becomes abundantly clear in the playoffs. And young players and draft picks were traded away as if they were meaningless. That leaves things where they are today.

Matthews is probably pretty hurt - or at least, he better be because if this is what we get going forward, this team has no chance to win a Cup in this era.

I'd like to see Pacioretty out and Kampf in for game 6. I'd also like to see Robertson back in. Go with the guys who got you 108 points this year. Who comes out though...maybe Jarnkrok, maybe Holmberg but Berube seems to be in love with him. In goal, I'd be ok going with either of them. Stolarz hasn't been the problem but sometimes a change brings a spark.

Leafs are 1 for 33 in powerplays in close out games. And we saw two shorties these past two games.

So that means they are at least -1 in the last 33 powerplays in close out games.

It's kind of funny. You have to admit.

Almost...entertaining. In a special Leafy/sick/twisted way, but still.

I dont think winning 2 rounds will change this narrative. They need to get to the finals or better.

What do you call a super gifted intelligent person, born into wealth, and given every chance to succeed......but just doesn't because they don't show up when circumstances become difficult?

A total loser.
