Just heard he's going back to Detroit.

Always admired Detroit's hockey program and the loyalty from its owners, players, and staff. I hope the Leafs are able to replicate this family mentality with Dubas and Shanahan at the helm.

My read on the situation is starting to be: Yzerman was in the final year of his contract with Tampa. Teams very rarely go into a season with a GM in that type of contract situation, and will often re-up them prior to the season starting. Tampa ownership went to him and wanted to sign him to an extension. For whatever reason (either he has eyes for Detroit or Seattle, or other personal things) Yzerman said no. So with him not confirmed for 19/20 they decided to promote BriseBois up to avoid any uncertainty in the future.

I know it's just bad twitter writing but saying he has a family there sure makes it sound like it's one of many.

There had better be a photo of little Stevie sleeping on Red Wings sheets headlining a Player's Tribune 'article' to accompany this press conference.

Maybe it's just me but I don't really get the heading to Detroit angle in a professional sense. If that was the idea why not just resign?

Yzerman has been commuting to Tampa from Detroit these past 8 years.

I think he's effectively resigned.

It's actually because he needs to spend time working out so that he can beat Bergevin in an arm wrestling contest.  He already beat him in a trade.  It's the last step to Yzerman's total domination of the NHL.

I mean, Bergevin is jacked.
