Senators are getting fined their first round pick in either 2024/2025/2026 for failing to disclose Dadonov's No Trade list to Vegas when they traded him last year.

My initial reaction to this was that it felt like a very, very excessive punishment. Especially since I think there had to be some failings on both Vegas and the NHL for something like this to happen as well. But seeing two reports of people claiming Vegas feels like they were deliberately lied to about this makes me not quite as surprised.

I think he was already fired, they were just waiting for this hammer to fall (on him)

A little greasy but at the end of the day, he was buying the team and it isn't like we're knocking off 250K for your troubles.

The irony of fining the Senators for not disclosing information while not disclosing information to Andlauer is funny.  The Pinto scenario seems like something that would take time because there was negotiation between Pinto and the NHL/NHLPA to come to his punishment.  Ownership should probably be informed of that though.

Andlauer has more than a fair arguement to question why it took almost 8 months to fine Ottawa for something that happened before the trade deadline.

There are "material facts" that need to be disclosed in any business buy/sell agreement, and maybe the league is saying go sue the folks that sold you the team because they knew.

But this has lawsuit written all over it...and it's more than "$250k".  A first round pick is worth millions.

The Melnyk group might not have been informed there were punitive actions forthcoming. And it sort of sounds like the NHL was miffed but wasn't going to take action until more information was presented by Vegas recently.

QuoteEarlier this week, The Athletic reported the NHL had an "active investigation" into the Dadonov situation.

Clearly, at some point over the past several weeks, new information has surfaced to corroborate Vegas' version of events — that places the blame squarely on the Senators organization.
