Boucher I seem to remember liking way back when the Leafs initially looked at him for the head coaching job that eventually went to Babcock. Mike Van Ryn also generally seems to have gotten good reviews for his work in St. Louis.

My only memory of Guy Boucher, other than looking like a legit Bond villain, is the trap he played against Philly to a standstill.

There are enough coaches on the bench to play 1-3-1

Guy Boucher resurfaces.  He was slated to be Leafs coach in 2015 until Babcock became available.

He totally looks like a Bond villain.

Van Ryn was apparently specifically hired to work with Rielly on his use of vowels.

I can see that.   As much as people like to look at Rielly's defensive metrics, it really his xVowAboveRepl the needs to be improved, although his VowProRate looks fine.

So far, not really seeing much to suggest there will be improved team offense, aside from Matthews being healthy (please, hockey deities). Also which ones of these guys is breathing down Keefe's neck?

I'll go with Le Chiffre from Casino Royale.

He said the same thing about forward depth after the deadline and still went back to Matthews-Marner to solve ALL the problems.

Yeah, I think I had a similar feeling last year.  He always just says that this iteration is the best that he has ever had.   I don't think he is necessary lying, just that the evolution of the team or team staff doesn't necessarily mean all that much.
