Former Coyotes goalie coach so you'd assume there'd be some familiarity with Treliving there. Good luck in Pittsburgh.

Their careers in Arizona didn't cross over. Treliving was in Calgary by the time Elkin landed with the Coyotes. This offseason appears to have been their only overlapping period even though Elkin had also been with Calgary previously.

This might be a bit of a hot take but goalie coaches are probably the most overrated (or maybe just overanalyzed) part of a hockey staff. At least from a fan perspective.

I don't know that there's a big difference between the "#1 goalie coach" and the "#10 goalie coach" but I think a good goalie coach can make a difference. Especially when a goalie is struggling.

Former Soo goalie coach under Dubas, so, you know, continuing his trend of trying to get the band back together.

Also, should probably be pointed out, he wasn't a goalie coach with the Leafs - or, at least, not THE goalie coach. That's Curtis Sanford. Elkin's official job was Goaltender Evaluation and Development.

Willy's golf skills do not transfer to baseball hitting. Auston is lacking leg drive but has the leverage and bat speed to muscle it out. Mo remembers t-ball.

I don't know how much of a career is left after this for a goalie

My guess, without the facts, would be odds are probably against him.
Depends a lot on what they did or found and how long he'd had the problem which we may never know.
Both hips lowers his chances as the chances he has a persistent problem with one of them will be higher.

I take it as sad news. Hoping for the best.

I'm sure he'll give it a go after surgery but I can't see him being capable of maintaining a career after this.  The bilateral hip surgery should probably shut up the "Leafs are just cap circumventing" crowd.

QuoteToronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that Curtis McElhinney has been hired as the Director of Goaltending Development and Scouting, Jake Muzzin has been named a Pro Scout and Chris Bourque will assume a new role as a College Free Agent Scout.

Muzzin was already in the pressbox for the Leafs most nights. Might as well give him a notebook and a few things to watch while he snacks.
