It feels like a lot of the "insiders" latched on to him as a possibility before Dubas was even let go, and they're just sticking with it. But, who knows?

At this point Shanahan should just stick his neck out and be the GM instead of playing puppet master crap.

I wonder if the press conference aspect is why he doesn't want the GM role. His presser about Dubas was ridiculous, imagine what it would be like explaining a trade dealine or a draft? Or anything?

Which is kind of ironic because we fired Dubas because of his media conference according to Shanahan.  If he wants to play GM he should face the limelight.

I could (maybe) live with Brad Treliving as GM. He's probably a guy who knows how the NHL works.

Just to project a scenario that might not play out, maybe he has paid his dues and is now coming into his perfect situation, not unlike what Paul Maurice seems to be doing. It's hard to assign credit when there are so many random elements that go into success in hockey. But, if it's working for you, it's working.

I have a feeling that Shanahan might be waiting to see what happens with the Vegas Dallas series.  George McPhee would be an excellent GM, if he becomes available.

Here's hoping... now that Dubas has found his new home, I sort of feel that the Penguins added an identifiable skill set that'll help their team given where it is (I.e. Dubai's talent was in supplementing a core with pretty effective, cost efficient bargain buys using every last nickel at his disposal). I'm not so confident that the Leafs are getting anything as useful to what/where they are in Treviling. But I only know him through the recent reporting.

I will say, after the last week of reporting and pressers, it'll be something if Dubas goes once he starts talking about breaking up the Core 4 with some big-swing trades and he's replaced by a guy who made trades like that because he's a compliant employee adept at carrying out the strategy of whoever signs his cheques.

Toronto won numerous Cups before Pittsburgh was ever in the league.

History didn't begin the day you were born.

The Leafs have won 0 Cups since Pittsburgh has been in the league though

Seing all the moves that Dubas did for the Pens since his new role there...

I miss you Kyle.
Go Leafs Go!!!

OldTimeHockey

I'm looking at his moves? Other than the trade yesterday, which one is really making you miss him being around?

I know which Leaf ones don't make me miss him.

I really don't see the appeal.

I miss you Kyle.

For someone who is highly touted for his drafting ability, he sure loves frittering away 1st round picks (surprisingly more than I'd have expected him to).

I get the move for Karlsson, but just like he did here, I don't think the moves he makes/made help put the team(s) over the top.

I think the lustre wore off a long time ago.

Will be interesting to see how he does from a distance with all his moves no longer seen through blue and white glasses in which some applauded every move he made.

You know, Shanahan really missed an awesome way to tell the story of the last days of Kyle with the Leafs.  In that awkward press conference, he could have just broken into song:

He called me up from a pay phone
I said, "Hang tight, I can drive you home"
I pulled on up and with a Southern accent
I offered you my Dad's leather jacket

When times were tough, in the worst years
We never knew how to interfere
And now you're back, and just unpacking
Those bruised-up takers, you keep attracting

From the time Dubas joined the Pens I just had a feeling in my bones that the Leafs and Pens will meet in the playoffs this season.  That's how the ultimate battle will play out.
