Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Now we have to keep Dubas.  Maybe Pridham trades a few good assets to the Leafs for pennies on the dollar. ;-)

We obviously can't hold a guy back from getting a promotion but this is a loss that would be devastating for the organization.  Unless Pridham has a user guide available with all of his intricate calculations.

Oddly enough I actually think Calgary could make a lot of sense as a trading partner if the Leafs decide to make core changes. Maybe Nylander goes back "home" and the Leafs finally get the "furnace" lots of people wanted in 2015?

Quote from: Bullfrog on May 14, 2023, 08:21:12 PMWhy would we trade Marner though? He's a bonafide elite superstar.

As much as I love him -- and I LOVE him -- Willy's the first to go for sure.

Nylander can contribute during the playoffs, and Marner's worth more on the trade market.

The Penguins job is bound to be quite attractive, I'd imagine.

I don't know about that. I really don't think it's that great a situation.

Two aging superstars, a core in decline, question marks in net, and a pretty barren farm system? It's a pretty serious clean up job requiring a fairly short turnaround time. Not super appealing, if you ask me.

On the flip side though they're probably guaranteed to win the lottery whenever the next NHL phenom comes around.

Could take Matthews with him at the end of next season. Get Crosby on some kind of Spezza-sequel deal the season after. Draft lottery win next season.

Might be plenty could be done.
I Saw Jay McClement Score.

Man, looking over the Calgary roster, I'm really hard pressed to find any player or combo of players that i'd move Willy for.

I think the difference is that the ownership in Pitt knows it's not a great situation - and would be giving the new GM a lot of money, time, and latitude. That would be appealing, I'd think.

I disagree. I don't think Pitts ownership is keen on wasting Sid and Geno's remaining years - which is a big part of why they let the Hextall and Burke go. They want a pretty quick turnaround.

I really think the only option is to run it all back again. I couldn't stomach a reset anytime soon. Change the coach and see who resigns and who walks.

How about Dubas for Pres and Pridham for GM.

Holy heck the free agent market is not great.  Any changes that come are probably going to have to come from trades even if we didn't want to make trades.  What a mediocre free agent class.

I wouldn't be opposed but do we know if Pridham is a capable GM?  We know he knows the cap inside out but it doesn't mean he would make a good evaluator of talent.
