True.

What a garbage effort.  Glad they lost, to be honest.

Like the trip on Matthews, no way were they going to call any of that.

Quote from: Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate on March 12, 2023, 11:04:25 PMYou heard it here first: Matthews will get at least two goals in this one and finish the season in the low 40s.

I thought he was going to get it after he finally got a greasy goal.  Oh well.

Willy scores on that breakaway, changes the game. So for an encore he takes a bad penalty.

Or the high sticks. Makes sense.

Guilt Trip

Game changed with the first penalty to Kerfoot. Liljegren had a bad game. Won't be surprised to see him sit again.

Babs used to complain that the Leafs didn't show up on time for games, lately they show up on time but seem to fall asleep after the 1st, get out shot, get out played consistently in the 2nd, lately?

It's an odd team, hard to understand.

Leafs were in complete control. Two bad penalties have Buff momentum. Leafs still good in the 3rd, Willy misses a breakaway and then takes a penalty. Little things can change a game.
And they've actually been pretty good in the 2nd lately.

Ah I see we coasted to losing.

Jeeez louise; people wanted to trade this guy for a stay at home defenseman or a 10 G power forward?

Murray got hung out to dry but he needs to stop the puck more ultimately.  Mistakes are going to happen and if keeps letting in this many of those mistakes the Leafs aren't going anywhere with him in net.

4 goals or more allowed in his last 5 starts and 7 of his last 10.  He had an .883 SV% in 5 games in January and now has an .848 Sv% in March.

Sure, but the defense tonight just collapsed.  Forwards, d-men, they all sucked.

That said, you'd like to see him steal one for us sometimes.  The goaltending is starting to trend like last year: peaking in November, sort of drifting as the season winds down.

There are still a few games to play in the season. But at this juncture:

Murray's numbers are very similar to his season in Ottawa last year - which is not good because he's playing on a better defensive team. Therefore, arguably on that basis, he's worse.

His good playoff years with Pittsburgh happened in 2016 and 2017 - roughly half a career ago.

He's giving up half a goal per game more than Samsonov.
Samsonov v Murray Stats

At this point, if one had to call it, Samsonov has clearly earned it.

To me, the debate isn't so much who should start. The more interesting debate or closer case or "has me wondering" might be who should fill in if needed. Woll is pretty hot. That might be Fool's Gold. But I've wondered about it more than whether Murray should start the playoffs. Woll should carry on playing with the Marlies. But if Samsonov goes down and the team needs to win the next game (usually the case in the playoffs), I'd have to give some serious thought to giving Woll a shot. No way I'd hand the baton to Murray alone unless he came in and stood on his head each night.
