If you look at his injury history, which is probably the reason they had a hard time moving him, there is a good chance Kyle was wise to stay clear of what the Yotes were asking - like so many other GMs.

After his first NHL season, he hasn't made it beyond 63 games in a season.

24 yrs old in a 30+ year old damaged body ..

Man, that's a painful return. As guilt trip said above, you can't force a team to take what you consider a better offer, I sure as hell hope Dubas tried.

Others can pick up a bonafide star who will make your team that much better, signed for ridiculous money for a few more years and maybe put you over the top for not much more. Kane and Chychrun both gone for not much in my opinion and would have made this team so much better.

Kane was not available for anyone other than the Rangers. He was only willing to waive his no trade for NYR. He went for not much because the Hawks had zero leverage.

Coyotes definitely overplayed their hand here. Forced themselves into a corner and alienated a lot of teams with their initial asks. Poorly done on their part.

Always at least one that complains about the ones they didn't get. That deal wasn't available to anyone not named the Rags. Same as Chychrun. If the Leafs could have sent a 1st and 2-2nds for him they would have done it and so would a bunch of other teams.

Not to mention Ottawa's 1st is going to be 10+ spots earlier in the draft than the Leafs, and that represents a potentially huge difference in the quality prospect they'll be able to draft. That would have been factored into what they were asking for from the Leafs and other teams. No way the Leafs get him without another guaranteed 1st and/or Knies attached.

Because they cheaped out, as usual. Probably just some random admin person running their socials.

Two other notable differences. There is no retention of Chychrun's cap hit by Az.
As well, the cash strapped Sens are paying him $5.4 mil next season and $7 mil in his second and final season under this contract before he becomes a UFA. McCabe will cost the Leafs $2 mil and then $2.5 mil - so about $8 mil less than what Ottawa will pay Chychrun over the last two years.
