Good haul for Nash. Essentially 2 1sts and whatever they can get for Barrie if they flip him.

Was gonna say, I understand this trade but I wonder if Ekholm's contract ages well...

Probably not but Edm needs help on the backend. They still need another D man.

Lol

I wonder if Poile laughed too

I was wondering if Dubas should have got Chicago to eat a few bucks of Lafferty's deal. It would have given him more options at less dollars to get under the cap with Murray's return.

If you see something silly like 4%, I'd argue the GM or his capologist are just doing their job -doing something that might save them dumping a better player to get under the cap.

I mean it only equates to 250k off the cap hit, which isn't significant at all.

Good pickup for the Oilers.
Should help their PK.
I wasn't a big fan of Barrie - some addition by subtraction defensively maybe

I don't have the numbers any more but if Chicago ate $200k of Lafferty's AAV, they could have waived Aston-Reese instead of dumping Kerfoot or Engvall to get under the cap with Murray - in some circumstances. Something like that. It shocked me that it was that little and could save having to dump a better player in the scenario I was looking at. I concluded in part, because they didn't do that that it was probable something else must be up ... which unfolded today.

Problem is a team can only retain on 3 contracts. They'll be retaining on Kane. They were already retaining on McCabe (for 2 more years, which is fairly rare). So retaining on Lafferty, which would have had to count this season and next season, would limit their options both this deadline and possibly next deadline.

That makes sense. Thanks.
