•Detroit finds themselves much higher in the standings than most would have expected. They sit 3rd in the Atlantic, ahead of both Tampa and Florida. The bad news is that they're also 29th in CF%, 20th in GF%, and 25th in xGF%

That's a great name.

It's tough taking Detroit seriously despite their place in the standings. I realize that they need to be, but they've been bad for so long, it's hard to flip the switch. Hopefully the Leafs can.

Their place in the standings is fueled by their schedule. The only good team they've faced is New Jersey twice and Boston once. Come to think of it, New Jersey has also had a favourable schedule (not to take anything away from how they've played, which is relentless and fast and fun and mostly effective) facing only the Leafs twice and a hungover and injured Colorado once.

Getting a point in half of their total losses is also pretty unsustainable. Same for the Leafs as well, but the two teams will likely go in opposite directions once that levels out.

Yeah I get all that. But, they're winning games this year that they weren't in previous years. New Jersey as well.

Can't be cheering for Connor Brown no more.

MLHS:

–  It's early, but in three games without Morgan Rielly, the power play is 0/10. We probably underrate how long the unit has been together – basically since John Tavares arrived in Toronto. There's an adjustment period – especially when it's the player up top – but I will be curious to see if it does roll without him at any point and what the success looks like.

I predicted with Sandin at QB that he'd get a goal in the first three games.  Not only didn't that happen, the whole thing has been undercooked.

So much for my Great Carnack routine.

I like the Wings' jerseys tonight.  Their winged wheel logo is crappy.

I think the Wings are trying to prove they belong.  I also think it is hard to play an entire game at that pace.
