Game notes
TOR
•Erik Kallgren (2-2-4, 2.87 GAA, .891 Sv%) will start for the Maple Leafs
•No confirmations, but don't be surprised if any or even all of Toronto's scratches on Friday find their way into the line-up on the 2nd half of this back to back

PIT
•Casey DeSmith (3-4-1, 2.88 GAA, .909 Sv%) will likely start for the Penguins
•Pittsburgh is also playing their 2nd game in 2 days. They're coming off a 4-1 victory over the Flyers, which was their 5th straight win

Guilt Trip

Tough one for sure. Hope the effort is there and we can pull another win out. Go Leafs Go

RedLeaf

Not sure why Murray played the weaker Wild team and Kallgren gets the pens , but hopefully that decision pays off. Go Leafs !

That's the way it usually goes 99% of the time...The #1 plays the 1st game of a B2B.

Bender

Not super confident about this one considering they have a full squad...

Right but it doesn't mean it's the correct approach. I guess the thinking is they should win at least the 1st of the back to backs this way, but it also gives the stronger opponent a better chance of winning.

I remember reading around here a while back that the math adds up for this approach.  The idea is that you hope for a split on back to backs, so give yourself the best chance to win the first game.

That's funny because I have felt the Leafs have been lacking in this department; they could be so much better at generating rush opportunities, but it would cost them their volume scoring chance suppression (especially with a short-staffed D-corps).

If Matthews has a big game, we win.  Otherwise, nope.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

What the heck happened there and what a move by Marner to still get in all alone

Not only was it the world's worst change, the instant replay wasn't kind to Petry.
